23. otaku
William Gibson, one of the originators of the 'cyberpunk' science fiction genre, used the term "otaku" in his 1996 novel "Idoru". The meaning given, from a Japanese-translation computer function used by a character, was 'pathological techno-fetishist with social deficit'. The character so described spent much of his time online in a multi-user domain and subsisted on Ramen-type noodles and canned coffee. Although by Japan's rigorous social standards a "loser", the character was well-mannered and good-hearted.

24. geeks-in-law
A way to describe your relationship with somebody who you originally met doing a geeky hobby (such as trainspotting, roleplaying or a science fiction fanclub), whether you still participate in that hobby or not.

It is a good way to answer awkward questions without having to, for example, describe to your new girlfriend what Magic: The Gathering is.

25. Sith names
Names belonging to those who have surrendered to the Dark Side of the Force, i.e., Darth (whatever). Usually an English word beginning with the prefix "in-" with the prefix removed.
Examples of Sith names in the Star Wars movies included Darth Sidious (from insidious) and Darth Vader (from invader). Other possible Sith names could include Darth Animate, Darth Bred, Darth Cestuous, Darth Conceivable, Darth Continent, Darth Credulous, Darth Ductive, Darth Famy, Darth Finity, Darth Flammatory, Darth Genuous, Darth Sane, Darth Sipid, Darth Sinuating, Darth Sufferable, Darth Timidating, Darth Toxicating, Darth Valid, and so on.
26. faan
A hardcore attendee at a science fiction convention. Like filk, it originated as a misspelling in a convention program.
He knows every Star Trek script by heart. He's such a faan.

27. anime
a form of cartoon-primarily Japanese- that commonly features aspects of science fiction and fantasy. Unlike most traditional cartoons which is mostly enjoyed by children, anime is popular amongst people who read all three Lord of the Rings books and can name the guy who played C3P0 in the Star Wars films. These people are generally lacking in basic social graces, they commonly use excessive and unnecessary word choices when asking for their Anime titles-most of which they are unable to spell themselves. Many anime features have stupid ass titles like Yo Yo deus ex machina.

28. nerdophobe
Anybody who has an irrational fear of those with a dorky persuasion. This individual will often avoid all contact with those associated with anime, science fiction and videogames. Also doesn't like people with glasses or braces.
