22. San Diego
Once a sleepy fishing village and Spanish Mission, San Diego has degenerated into forgetful and unfortunate suburb of the Los Angeles "splurb", that is, the suburban sprawl that grew through Orange County and San Diego like a cancer. Sadly, the "Sun Tax" mentality of local employers offers very little in terms of pay and benefits that one needs to reach the San Diego once-high affordability index, which favors only the huge homeless population as well as those who live 20 people to a small house (e.g. Phillipinos, Mexicans etc) as well as the high number of people living on welfare and Section 8 subsidies. In recent years, the high tide of illegal immigration and the bursting housing bubble has reduced San Diego to a has-been border city where all mortgages are under water, crime is high, drugs (esp crystal meth) are everywhere, auto theft is epidemic, while assault and homicide aren't even news. This is merely a few of the wonderful benefits that come from being Tijuana's closest neighbor. The only one thing San Diego had going was The Chargers, which also have become a laughable member of the NFL. The Chargers have never won a Superbowl ... and never will. Meantime, San Diego remains a wonderful place for terrorists to live undetected.
I used to live in San Diego in the early 1980's. After years of spinning my wheels and working my ass off, I finally gave up on the low pay and slave wages and moved to a real city. Thank God I had enough sense to stay out of real estate there, given the housing meltdown and the bankruptcy of a city that can barely stay above water.
23. la canada
Also known as "The LC" and commonly referred to as "The Bubble." Where the kids are impossibly good-looking and it's not out of place for a girl to total a luxury car more than a couple times driving home drunk from a house party only to have it replaced by a newer, more expensive model. Everyone loads up on the APs and has a huge sense of entitlement when it comes to education and money. Boys go out of their way when asking girls to dances. Cheesy puns and flowers are a must ("Out of all the fish in the sea, will you go to Homecoming with me?). Many residents are third or fourth generation La Canada. Couture is abundant at La Canada High School - whatever is the latest or most expensive, expect it to be seen at LCHS. Every year there are several coined phrases that are all the rage. These colloquialisms make sense to only those from La Canada - it seriously is like a foreign language cooler than any those from outside will create. Real estate is insane as everyone wants to move here for the school district. Even the tiniest house will have a starting price of at least 2 million.
"La Canada was blacklisted from the Rose Court this year because too many LCers were super shitfaced at the Rose Ball. They couldn't even point out individual people - La Canada as a whole got wasted."
24. Robert Gibbs
A rhetorical defense strategy when you are questioned on something you have no idea on, and you reply with "I am not an expert in "blank" field . Commonly used by White House press secretary Robert Gibbs.
Student 1: What did the housing bubble have to do with the recent economic meltdown.

Economics Professor: Well listen im not a futures speculator or real estate tycoon, but trust me houses and stuff were important to the economy.

Student 1: Professor with all do respect that was a Robert Gibbs explanation/answer.
25. Bubblehead
A person, usually a person who is selling Real Estate (likely their own home) who thinks the value of thier holdings are the same as when the last 'bubble' in Real Estate happened. Currently, it would be the bubble of 2006 that they refer to. This person, this seller, thinks their home is worth today what it was at the height of the bubble. They are, deluded.
That seller is so crazy if he thinks that dump will command a price that high... he's a total Bubblehead.
26. Santa Barbara
A remote fishing village of 140,000, with an exclusive, nouveau-riche mentality reeking of entitlement. It is a simultaneously right & left wing post Judeo-Christian enclave where parades range from Historic to the Absurd. It was a center of Chumash Indian Culture. Ronald Reagan later gleefully told his wife, 'Those oil rigs out there look just like Christmas Trees to me, Nancy!' Most of the real-estate purchased just a few decades ago for mere tens of thousands now sell for over a million dollars. After the housing bubble hit the beach, people held on due to its prime location on a Pacific Coast & resultant climate, in spite of the cost of property taxes & rents. It is also home to about five major colleges, students & staff. Its major import is Tourism.

The dichotomy: Severely handicapped, mentally ill, parolees & homeless visit & often remain there because of the weather & the fact they sometimes get disability checks; medication or have doctor's appointments in the area & therefore also call it 'home'. Like other cities across the country there is a mission (not the pretty one on the hill) & a few help outreaches but almost no affordable housing. The Section-8 Housing list, although not perpetually closed like other major nearby cities such as LA & San Francisco; is reputedly seven-thousand miles long, (each year representing a thousand miles to be walked) with most applicants dying before they reach the top.
