the worst incarnation of rock (if you want to call it that) ever to be created, started by poser fags like blink 182 and avril lavign, not to mention Mtv. it is really just pop lyrics with "emo" music. the intrumentals are horrible, the singers sound like 8 year olds and in their videos they jump around like mad and seem to be having seizures. the bands have no talent and bost of hardcore attitudes when they are just whiney little boys screaming into a mic.

ass batter

A style of music that originated in New York in the mid 1970s. Although many people claim to know the true origins of punk rock, few really do. Originally a movement of alienated youth, today it is used as a moniker to describe any horrible piece of trash that receives frequent rotation on FM radio. A word absolutely devoid of it's original meaning and virtually destroyed by the popular media.
Black Flack circa 1980 was the definition of a punk rock band; explosive and threatening. Blink 182 is the present definition of a punk band; safe and non-threatening.

It is not about how cool you are, or how much better you are. Its about community. Its about expression. Its about going into a pit and being able to beat the shit out of someone and 5 min later you are friends. Its about not giving a shit what others say or think. Its being true to yourself.
upon seeing someone new

Fuck 1 = man those guys look so queer
Fuck 2 = yea we are so much better than them. We are punk rock.

Punk 1 = cool...

To try to define punk rock is stupid. Punk rock is a kind of music, and is the life style around it, that started it. Your punk if you really don't give a damn what people think. Punk rock music is generally raw and fast 3 chord music, and it always has lyrics that are about something that the written wants to be out there. The lifestyle of punk rock kids though doesn't mean you only listen to punk rock, it means you listen to, and do whatever you want and don't give half a fuck what other people think. A true punk rock kid could listen to one direction, acdc, the Ramones, and 5sos and still be punk rock cause if the way they held themselves and acted. If your punk, you speak and act out for what you believe in, especially of it will make you uncool.
I posted this because really? I looked this up for a joke, but the definitions accualy made me laugh, cause an accualy punk kid wouldnt care if you were trashing their bands or calling them not punk or whatever. Punks not dead, just misunderstood
Pop punk kid: I love blink 182, all time low, good Charlotte, and 5sos!
Poser punk rock: what the fuck? Good Charlotte and blink 182 have killed punk rock! The Ramones and Blondie are punk rock You aren't actually punk!
Punk rock: I like Sex Pistols, simple plan, dead Kennedy's, green day the clash, Ed Sheerhan, and five iron frenzy. Oh I'm not punk rock? I don't give half a fuck

Punk rock was originally about an uncontrollable rage and a rebellion against anything and everything. It got it's name from a music critic that said it reminded him of the 60's music he used to listen to. In the late sixties The Velvet Underground was around. They brought rock and roll back to what it started as. They laid the stones for all future punk and alternative bands. They inspired bands such as Iggy And The Stooges, ? And The Mysterians, The Ramones, New York Dolls, and U2. The Ramones started the punk phenomena. They inspired The Sex Pistols, The Clash, Blondie, Television, and Talking Heads. The Ramones went to England on tour and said it was a freak show with all of the colored hair. While there a bunch of kids appeared and told them that they were the guys that turned them on. Those guys were Johnny Rotten and Joe Strummer. Punk inspired a new genre called hardcore. Hardcore bands included Black Flag, The Dead Kennedys, Bad Religion, and Bad Brains. Punk almost died in the 80's. It was brought back to life by Green Day, The Offspring, MXPX, Nirvana, and Tripl3 Thr3at.
Punk has been ruined. Now there are many fake punk bands. These are Blink 182, 311, Avril Lavigne, Good Charlotte, and FM Static.

A genre of rock that is more about the message than the music. Punk songs are usually, but not always, made up of 3 chords.

If you're not sure if a song is punk, listen to the lyrics. If they are not about standing up for something the artist believes in (ie: anti-censorship, anti-war, anti-racism, etc.) then it is NOT a punk song. Punk is about standing up and fighting for something you believe in. It has nothing to do with the image or the artist, or even how the melody of the song sounds.

Examples of punk bands:
Sex Pistols, Ramones, Clash, NOFX, Rancid, Bad Religion

Nonexamples of punk bands:
New Found Glory, Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, MxPx, Ataris, Thursday
Wannabe: "Hey! I wear clothes from Hot Topic! I'm punk!"

Real punk: "No, you're a poser. Punk has nothing to do w/ the clothes you wear."
