Paltering

Paltering (gerund or verb) and palter (verb) refer to an extremely common practice of lying and deceiving with true statements. Probably the most common form of paltering (especially among politicians and interviewees on media) is answering a challenging or embarrassing question with a statement which is true but does not address the original question. Frustrated questioners sense the lie, but instead of identifying the paltering, often rephrase and repeat their original question. Strangely, very few know this word and its phenomenon, thinking a lie must be only a misstatement of fact. Check out a long scholarly article on paltering at www.apa.org/pubs/journals/releases/psp-pspi0000081.pdf .
By subtle paltering, the witness at a Senate hearing avoided all the challenging and important questions that Senators directed his way, leaving the Senators with a sense of confusion and frustration.

Paltergeisting

Paltergeisting (verb, from “paltering” + “poltergeist”)

Core definition:

To “haunt” or destabilize someone’s understanding of reality by using technically true but misleading communication, so that they walk away confused, doubting themselves, or unable to tell what was real.

It’s not just paltering (using truth to mislead).
Paltergeisting = the active act of creating that haunting, foggy after-effect.
• “He didn’t lie about where he was, he just said ‘I stepped out for a bit.’ Left out the part where he stepped out with his ex. That’s straight paltergeisting.”
• “Talking to that company rep was wild. Every answer was technically true and somehow I knew less after each email. I’ve been paltergeisted.”
• “Stop paltergeisting me and just say what you actually did.”

paltergeist

Paltergeist
noun \ pal-ter-gyste \
1. The lingering, haunting confusion left behind when someone misleads you using only technically true statements.
Not a clean lie—more like reality bent just enough that your brain keeps replaying the conversation.
2. A person, conversation, or system that “haunts” your mind because everything sounded normal on the surface, but the intent underneath was deceptive.
“Alexandrea didn’t realize it at the time, but the way the salesperson spun the Ashley store furniture scam in Chico was a total paltergeist—every line was technically true, but months later he was still haunted by how the deal actually worked.”

Years later, when Alex put the pieces together about what really happened, he realized it wasn’t just betrayal—it was a paltergeist. Every ‘honest’ answer had been crafted to keep him compliant while the damage was done behind his back, and now those conversations replay in his head like a horror reel he never consented to watch.

Power Couple

A relationship between two people who are equally as cool as each other. They are as individually awesome and fun to be around as they are when they are together.

Neither one depends on the other for their feelings of self worth- they know in their heart that they are just as valuable to the world as the other. Good looking, optimistic, and sparks a light in the world that people recognize that goes beyond a normal relationship.

In a power couple, if one person is flawed, the other person makes up for their weaknesses in strength. Together they are the epitome of what anyone would desire in a relationship. They encourage goodness in the world and make it a better place by being together.
I'm a fan of those two, they are such a power couple, the epitome of what anyone would want in a relationship.

I am envious of them because they are a power couple.
