Billie Joe Armstrong is the lead singer of used-to-be punk rock band Green Day.
I claim that they 'used-to-be punk' simply because I think they have now strayed (perhaps not through their own faults) from the original values of punk.
Punk was originally the attitude a group of people shared who were going against the mainstream, and who held a great interest in the political world and shared feelings of mutiny against persons in authority.
Since the release of 'American Idiot' (which also started out as a political album), Green Day have arrived in the mainstream, releasing well-received hits such as 'American Idiot', 'Boulevard Of Broken Dreams' and 'Wake Me Up When September Ends'.
I for one do not find anything particularly special about any of their singles, preferring the album tracks instead which - thankfully - have remained somewhat sacred from the prying musical tastes of annoying high school girls who, incidentally, wouldn't know 'Dookie' from a pile of dung.
I do not, however, believe that Green Day have 'sold out'. I think the reason many people think they have is because of the fan base they have recruited since the release of their latest album. Fans like these claim to have liked Green Day 'all their lives' However, I find that hard to believe as the entries posted in Urban Dictionary claiming such...umm...claims were posted AFTER THE RELEASE OF AMERICAN IDIOT.

Benny Go Home was formed to counter the onslaught of southbound bennys to the Jersey shore, each and every summer. Its ranks are made up of locals sick of the invading hoards and formed as an evolution of the Benny Patrol, forming its political wing. A Neoconservative. One who accepts the RNC talking points without question. From an advertisement which appears on most right-wing blogs: a muscular man claims you can "master your body weight" via exercises that appear to involve humping the floor.

Swiftboating is a term used to describe the campaign waged by a group named "Swiftvets and POW's for Truth" against presidential candidate John F. Kerry. A swiftboat is a navy craft with a shallow draft used in the Vietnam war (PCF - Patrol Craft - Fast); It is armed with machine guns, usually from two fixed points. It is the type of craft that Kerry served on in the Vietnam war.
Many (not all) of the swiftvets served with John Kerry and didn't believe he was presidential material. They went public with their beliefs. Among their claims was that Kerry gamed the system by receiving Purple Heart Medals for minor injuries in an effort to end his tour of duty. Kerry received three Purple Hearts in four months and shows no debilitating injury; which is most unusual. Moreover, he will not release his service medical records. The intersection of this data strongly suggests that the claims of the swiftboaters has a good foundation.

The petition from the Swiftboat Vets makes, among others, this claim against John Kerry:

Idiots who think hust because a song is trying to make a political point it sounds good. Generaly instigated by a lack of an educated taste in music, or inspired by peers and therefore sanctified as "cool".System of a down is repetative meaningless bullshit. Often the fans dont care about the political points and like the screaming and emo-like crap.

A political party in the USA whose platform takes parts of the Libertarian party views, parts of the National Socialist views, and the environmental part of the Green party views.

9. Tax incentives for inner city development
10. Repeal of laws limiting citizen autonomy
11. Return to strict meritocracy in hiring and education
12. Any area more than 50% concreted must begin planting
13. End tax-free status of religious organizations
14. Certain destructive things banned
