Sony's current gen gaming console released in 2006. When released, the console was overpriced at $500 and $600 (although, this is nothing new). The console has built in wi-fi, blue ray player, and a removable hard drive. The console plays PlayStation 3 games, is able to play DVDs, CDs, BlueRay disks, and mp3s. It also features and internet browser. A PlayStation 3 owner can create a free account with the PlayStaion Network and will be able to download demos, buy certain games online (including certain PlayStation One classics), and game online. Currently, the price for the system is $300 and there is new "slim" model.

The system is in competition with Nintendo's Wii and Microsoft's Xbox 360. Some argue that PS3 is the most powerful system of the three. Some developers have stated that the system is harder to program for. Just like the other systems, PS3 has a loyal fan base who feels that this system is best of the three and that the other two extremely inferior (these people are known as fanboys/girls and are extremely annoying).

Even though, the system has been on the market for a few years, it has suffered in sales, although, the sales have been climbing. Some argue, that the PS3 is a big disappointment and failure(like Sega Saturn). Due to recently dropped price, the system has seen a climb in sales.

Performance wise, the system has a low failure rate. On the other hand, there are constant firmware updates.

A note to fanboys and fangirls: Whatever system you suppor...

A good gaming console, equal if not better than the Xbox 360 (let the thumbs down ratings flow), and features:

1. BluRay.

2. Free internet.

3. Wireless support right out of the box.

4. Playstation Store.

5. High Defenition gaming (complete with HDMI ports).

6. Memory card readers (SD and MicroSD).

7. Ability to use external hard drives to store data.

8. Faster internet browser than the PSP.

9.Blue Tooth support.

10. High quality graphics support.

A console everyone secretly wants but are too big a bunch of whiny fanboys to admit it.

Despite being much more reliable than the 360, much more powerful than the Wii and a better deal, it recieved a stupid amount of hate from idiots. However, it's now turning around after outselling the 360 worldwide in 2007 and being set to utterly decimate MS's console in 2008.

It's equipped with a Blu ray drive (the only HD format left seeing as HD-DVD is all but dead), a Cell processor, built in wi-fi, full bluetooth support and an upgradeable HDD.

It will take advantage of Sony's wide 1st and 2nd party game support as well as a massive amount of 3rd party titles, unlike Nintendo and Microsoft who rely on 1st and 3rd party games respectively.

The PlayStation 3 is one of the new 7th generation game consoles which mainly competes with the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii. The PlayStation 3, PS3 for short, was released on November 11, 2006 in Japan, and November 17, 2006 in the United States. It comes in two versions, the 20 gigabyte, and the 60 gigabyte. Both have hard drives, but the 20 gigabyte version does not have a chrome trim, built in Wi-Fi, or flash card readers, which the 60 gigabyte has. It has backwards compatibility with PlayStation and PlayStation 2. The 20 gigabyte version is $500 as of the release date, and the 60 gigabyte is $600. Both are high definition. There will be three available colors for the PlayStation 3: black, silver, and white, but as of the release date, the only available color is black. The white and silver are TBA. The PlayStation 3 comes with a wireless bluetooth controller; both versions have that. The PlayStation 3 is a great system, even though it is way expensive. The best value for the game system is the Nintendo Wii, in my opinion

An upcoming gameing machine (as at time of writing -02/01/06)from the Sony corporation. While no doubt a powerful gaming machine the PS3 is incredibly overhyped. It has a similar level of power to the Xbox 360 and will share a lot of 3rd party game titles with it. One of the potential drawbacks for the PS3 is it's complicated system architechture, which could make it difficult to get power from. Due in 2006/2007 (depending on where you live in the world) the PS3 is expected to be highly popular, regardless of how it actually performs.
