The Phat Beat Master

A term used to describe an infectious rap/hip-hop beat that is so phat it makes one's head jerk violently as if he/she were severely mentally handicapped.

The effects of such beats can be extremely amusing if viewed from a distance (while driving, for example), particularly if the person who's neck is snappin' has no idea whatsoever that they are being watched. Sometimes, however, this cannot be controlled.

1. A word to describe a rhythm that one likes. Comes from back in the old days, when people would call certain beats in songs "fat," referring to their presance. It's been adopted into slang rather recently, probably in the late 80s.

2. Often made into the backronym of "pretty hot and tempting." This is not what it originally stood for, but things change.

Now considered a major faux pas.

Dryer Beat is when the clothes dryer is making a kickin' hip hop beat and it makes you want to bust phat rhymes.

A term in which ricers use to describe winning a race against a child aboard a tricycle. They never say 'win while drag racing' or 'out handle' they only say 'My cIvIc can beat a Viper, Yo!' Thus giving the term no meaning what so ever.

The Phat 5 have ( 5 ) of the 7 undefeated National Championship team seasons. ( 4 ) UCLA, 1964, 1967, 1972, and 1973. N. Carolina ( 1 ), 1957. The other 2, U. San Francisco, 1956 and Indiana 1976. There hasn't been a undefeated team since Indiana in 76 and that was the year that the ( dunk ) was allowed back into the game of college basketball. The dunk was bamnned from college basketball from 1967-76. This was the same period that the ABA ( American Basketball Association ) was in existance.The ABA was the home to Dr.J and David Thompson the 2 most explosive dunkers of the era. Thompson and N.C. State beat UCLA in the 1974 National Semi-Final 80-77 in 2OT.

The first time 2 Phat 5 teams met in a National Championship game was in 1957. North Carolina ( UNC )beat Kansas ( KU ) who was led by Wilt Chamberlain in 3OT, 54-53. The 1957 Championship is the only National title game to go into 3OT and, it featured 2 Phat 5 programs.
