The Philippines were the death of Magellan. The expedition sighted the island of Samar on March 16, 1521. Magellan was welcomed by two Rajas, Kolambu and Siagu. He named the islands the Archipelago of San Lazaro, erected a cross and claimed the lands for Spain. The friendly Rajas took Magellan to Cebu to meet Raja Humabon. Humabon and 800 Cebuanos were baptized as Christians. Magellan agreed to help Raja Humabon put down Lapu-Lapu, a rebellious datu on the nearby island of Mactan. In a battle between Spanish soldiers and Lapu-Lapu's warriors, Magellan was killed on April 27, 1521. Disputes over women caused relations between Raja Humabon and the remaining Spaniards to deteriorate. The Cebuanos killed 27 Spaniards in a skirmish and the Spaniards, deciding to resume their explorations, departed Cebu. For all its losses, the voyage was a huge financial success. The Victoria's 26 ton cargo of cloves sold for 41,000 ducats. This returned the 20,000 ducats the venture had cost plus a 105 percent profit. Four more expeditions followed between 1525 and 1542. The commander of the fourth expedition, Ruy Lopez de Villalobos, named the islands after Philip, heir to the Spanish throne (r. Philip II 1556-1598). The Philippines was not formally ... |

- "Introduction i'm reaching the point in my life where i've realized that establishments are not passive things that just let you go on your way. The recent drug busts, uniform crackdown, and the announcement today which implied explicitly that the administrators posses a blacklist, along with the possibly embellished record of theft, have led me to recognize that cathedral catholic highschool is not a catholic-christian community, but a sort of oligarchal facism. I. Complaints against and Interpretation of School Policies I for one, do not think i am getting the education my parents spend their hard earned money each year on, and i believe it is either time for me, and all of us to choose. Either I will keep on passively attending a school that wants to change everything about me, conform me until they can eventually stick biased ideas into their graduates who will then unknowingly apply these ideas for the rest of their lives. this is called brainwashing. the school touts catholic social justice, and will expel anyone who has an abortion, but our uniforms are controlled by ONE single store, which manufactures its products in El Salvador. The one redeeming quality is that they give steady jobs to many salvadorans, even though much of el salvador is controlled by violent gangs and corrupt ... |

Edina is well known for being the wealthiest suburb in the State of Minnesota and is home to many top Doctors, Lawyers, Sports Owners, Altheletes, and the Wealthy. Edina is split into two sides due to highway 100 running through it north to south. The west side is known as the place to live (more expensive property) while the East side is home to the better shopping such as the uber-chic 50th and France, Southdale, and the ultra expensive Galleria.

| 5. | Louisiana Ho-Down | ||
|
As a defensive move in the early 1960’s, multiple parishes in Louisiana passed ordinances to create a loop-hole to legitimize prostitution, providing that some measure of proof could be supplied that any acts were both mutual and reciprocated. The loop-hole rested on the common practice of Cajuns to leverage their affection for the taste of Hooker Pussy as a means to avoid cash tips for prostitutes. However, not all Cajun men would honor this “swamp brother” courtesy due to cheapness or out of sibling rivalry. As a result, hosts for prostitution parties would commonly serve Shrimp with their Hookers as a means to both mask the breath of their patrons as well as provide fiduciary evidence that a patron “may” have reciprocated, thus legitimizing any act or exchange. As a result, parties where Hookers and Shrimp are presented are commonly referred to as a Louisiana Ho-Down. Boudreaux: “What say you tell that peace offer that makes him let you go after your brother’s Louisiana Ho-Down?”
Thibodeaux: “I say ‘my sisters a damn lier!!! Smell my breath’, he did and I’s gone frog jiggin.” Cookiedeaux: “You call me a lier one more time and you’re gonna find your nads redder than a crawfish up a racoon’s ass !!” |

Snoopy is a beagle dog that cartoonist Charles Schwartz features in the most popular comic strip in the world, "Peanuts". Snoopy has also been featured in movies, songs, etc. and is now an American icon. His independent nature has also made him a symbol of the "free spirit" attitude as well as what is good about America and its culture. 1. I've seen "Peanuts" strips in several languages like German, French, Arabic, Russian, Japanese, Greek and many more.

2. In college I saw a collection of items used in Roman Catholic parishes thruout the world. One item of note was a hymnal smuggled from communist China, where religious practices of any kind generally aren't allowed. Each page had Chinese musical notation and the lyrics to a song (of course, I couldn't read the words!). At the bottom of each hymn page was a sketched drawing of Snoopy. He was always looking sad, sitting on a swing and crying, or looking out a window, or in some other sad or melancholy state. No doubt this was a relection of the total lack of liberties and freedoms in China today. In this case Snoopy represents joy, cheer, happiness |
