Something/Someone who resides in the countryside or rural area, far away from any metropolitan area.
You ain't gonna get to his house with the bus; its way out in the sticks.

UK English for "out in the middle of nowhere"

Originates from the River Styx in the underworld in Roman mythology. So out in the Styx is somewhere so remote, you'd rather not be there.
Yes unfortunately I live out in the styx.

living out in the middle of no where, no houses, no stores, no nothing.
like the boonies.
