A hybrid strain of Of potent marijuana. Often called OG Kush, but O G is Sativa dominant.

The proper spelling is Purple KUSH. It is a cross between the 2 cannabis strains O.G. Kush and Purple#1 from Mendocino county in northern Califorrnia. KUSH refers to a strain of cannabis sativa subsp. indica that was indiginous to the kush mountain range of Afghanistan. The Kush strain is most widely known for it's pungent, spicy aroma as well as it's unmatched potency. Since KUSH hit the scene it has been inbread and bastardized. Many other strains that have no genetic link to real KUSH have adopted it's name simply to cash in on it's reputation. The most popular of the kush strains is th O.G. (Origional Gangsta')Kush which is no kush at all. It is actually a hybred of 2 heavy hitting sativas known as 'Chemdawg' and 'G13'. Favored in the rap community for it's potency and ungodly price (upwards of $30 a gr) it has taken hold of southern california to the point that many won't smoke anything but. OG Kush is a mostly Cannabis Sativa hybrid, clone-only cultivar found widely in Greater Los Angeles (Los Angeles, Orange and Ventura Counties), California, USA. The species is rumored to be another name for the legendary Chemdog (a.k.a. "Chemdawg" or "Chem") cultivar of Colorado/Wyoming, USA. In this widespread rumor, a 'cutting' (clone) of the "'91 Chemdog" made its way to Lake Tahoe, California early in the 1990's and that OG Kush is an 'S1' (1st generation offspring of a self-pollinated hermaphrodite) of this crop but it is only privately available in clone form and not in seed. Although not a "Kush," OG Kush does possess some Indica (Cannabis Sativa, Supspecies Indica) traits and it is rumored that it may have some Kush bred in its genetic heritage. However, it is mostly a Sativa in both phenotype and psychoactive effects when consumed. Some have described its effects as both cerebrally and physically stimulating and it's smell as "lemony pine-sol." The mature flowers usually appear as large and dense, lime-green clusters covered with copious amounts of "white" resin. It has sold on average for $75.00 USD for 1/8 ounce in most areas of Greater Los Angeles in 2007/2008.

A Cannabis Sativa dominant cultivar found in California, especially "The Valley" (San Fernando Valley).

This breed of marijuana has suffered long debates as of its origins and genetic heritage but anyone who has ever worked with this plant knows that the prized phenotypes are the Sativa phenos which are tall and lanky. These are where the real "fuel" and "chem" smelling flowers come from. Any grower or experienced enthusiast knows this to be true, despite any debates about heritage or origin about the plant. The plant is a mixed breed but is mostly a Sativa.

There are several cuts flowing around the area, such as 'SFV,' 'Ghost,' 'Tahoe,' 'Larry,' 'HA' (Hell's Angels), 'Fire,' 'Abusive,' and '818' but it is extremely rare to find an original OG Kush that hasn't been reworked. Many growers identify the 'Tahoe' and 'Ghost' as being two of some of the most close to the original OG Kush that made it's way to California early in the 1990's.

Anyone who says this plant is a kush definitely has not seen it growing and does not know much about weed because it has high THC and lower Cannabidiol than true Indicas, of which the Kush family come from.

A side note:
Anyone that knows anything about Kush plants know that these short, robust dark green and even purple colored plants originate from the mountain range stretching between central Afghanistan and northern Pakistan where taller, lighter Sativa dominant plants do not grow well.
