1. Albany
The capital of NY. A place so cold that boiling water freezes when you go outside in the winter. It's here where the hicks get along with the snobby rich kids. The place where college girls go outside in miniskirts and uggs in negative 15 degrees. The place where one can walk into a bar at 3 am and slow down and order a couple shots, and not get stared at.
Why is she dressed like a high-priced hooker going to the beach in the middle of winter? Oh yeah, we're in Albany.

Only in Albany will you see country girl Jane hang out with suburb Shannon.
2. Upstate New York
The vast area encompassing New York State north of Westchester county. A varied mosaic of farmland, woodland, picturesque rolling hills, and towns and cities ranging from the charming to the decrepit. Generally more provincial and less cosmpolitan than its densely urban New York City counterpart, its citizenry is more approachable and friendly albeit less refined and cultured than the pretentious yuppies of New York and Long Island. Some of its urban centers are buoyed economically and culturally by the influence of many universities and (in the case of the capital region) government administration centers; however most of its large cities are mired in varying states of urban decay and have been hemorrhaging population since the 1950s due to a steady loss of jobs and a subsequent increase in crime. Utica, Rochester, and Newburgh are particularly miserable places to set foot in. Its more rural areas, which feature breathtaking landscapes, are lovely and bucolic albeit mind-numbingly boring to actually live in.

In summation, upstate New York is too large and varied an area to define succinctly. As a native resident of New York City who went to college upstate I can both laud it for being physically beautiful and its natives for being candid, frank, and hospitable while noting that I would never want to live there permanently as life there can grow trite, repetitive, cold as hell, and insufferably boring after a while and the locals' lack of sophistication and city-esque ...

3. Kingston
The first capital of New York State, also known as the capital of Ulster County. A fast growing city with corrupt mayor, and coke head police. It is home to the NYS motor Vehicle office, The best 4th of July party in upstate New York, Hudson Valley Mall, Ulster County Jail, Ulster County Court. Kingston City is bigger than Poughkeepsie,NY Although it doesnt seem that way because there is more to do in Poughkeepsie. Kids form Saugerties and and Oneonta often claim they are from Kingston because they konw it's cooler to rep a City rather than a town noone ever heard of. Kids from Kingston will either stay in town and go to a local club, i.e. The Steal House, Toniq Gin Mill, Mariner's, or the Forum, or they will head up to Albany, Down to Poughkeepsie, New Paltz, or Newburgh. Pretty much the whole city is one big ghetto, Downtown and Midtown mainly. All the lawyers and doctors live uptown on Linderman and up towards that area, with the 2 millon dollar houses. Kingston is also home the the biggest high school in the Hudson Valley.
Kid 1) Yo, I'm goin to Poughkeepsie tonight, you wanna come?
Kid 2) Nha man, I'm gonna saty in Kingston and go to Mariner's or something.
Kid 1) Aight man, suit your self, we might end up in Newburgh too.
kid2) Go ahead dude I'm fine.
