An often misdefined sub genre of metal. Nu Metal involves rapping, scratching and simple yet heavily distorted guitar work. People often mix up "Nu Metal" with "New Metal" Nu Metal is rap with guitars. New Metal is the metal that most younger metal bands are bringing out. New Metal isn't bad, its just the evolutionary path that metal has taken. Nu Metal however is close to dead, as most Nu Metal bands have either moved onto rap or progressed into New Metal
40 Below Summer
a special type of laxative discovered in the 1990s designed to induce explosive diarrhea by simulating the sound of explosive diarrhea
If high-fiber fruits, vegetables and whole grains aren't resulting in a bowel movement in over 48 hours, it may be time to try some numetal
A classification used for a wide range of alternative rock acts, some of which have metal roots, some of which have rap elements, and some of which are really hard rock. This term was used by the media to define these acts back when they first started coming out after the alternative craze so they could be classified in the same genre, even though they don't really sound much alike. In reality, there is no such genre as nu metal, as every band that could be said to be in this genre really belongs to another. For example, Linkin Park is rap metal or rapcore (and really their latest stuff is just rock) while Disturbed is more Alternative Metal.
Metalheads will often complain about how much nu metal sucks but they really shouldn't because there is no such genre. Better stick to hating individual bands.
If you think Linkin Park and Disturbed are both nu metal, you're fucking insane.
A genre of music used to classify all bands any person does not like.
Person 1: Slipknot, Metallica, and Black Sabbath suck...
Person 2: Yeah, I really hate nu-metal too.
A subgenre of music that was largely popular from 1996 - 2002 mostly. It still has a moderate following as of 2010 though. Bands like Korn, Limp Bizkit, Clawfinger, Disturbed, Hed PE, Linkin Park, Coal Chamber, and Vanilla Ice can all be considered Nu Metal bands. It has a subculture and the typical clothhing style of said subculture are baggy jeans/shorts, tattoos, piercings, Adidas brand shoes and clothing, skateboarding brand clothes and shoes(Adio, Etnies, DC Shoes, Vans, etc.) and sometimes dyed and/or spiked hair. Traditional Metalheads hate it due to the fact that Nu Metal dosen't have guitar solos and is more angsty thus making them say it is "Un Metal". I personally think it is the greatest genre of Rock/Metal to have ever been made!
Nu Metal fan - "Hey, have you heard the new Korn album? It AWESOME!"
Br00tal Metalhead - "Fuk Shit Metal it aint REAL Metal...SLAYERRRRRRRRRRR!!!!"

Nu-metal, or mallcore
, is NOT, I repeat is NOT what metal is now, despite what the pop fans and MTV followers will tell you. Mallcore fans please stop trying to fit in, you're not metalheads.
Metal fans= average guys and girls, have lives, go to metal showa
Mallcore fans= teenie boppers whining about how life sucks
It's time to set some things straight about Nu-metal, like what IS nu metal and what is not. First off, Nickelback and Three Doors Down are MUCH more like rock bands, not metal. Granted they suck, but they're not metal in the least, either lyrically or in theme. This is important because calling bands like them "nu-metal" gives nu-metal an even worse name than it already has.
I also notice that a lot of people here are jumping to the defense of System of a Down and I must say I agree. SOAD is the only "nu-metal" band that really stands out in the category. System's songs and lyrics have some cool themes much like early Metallica (no, I'm not saying they sound very much alike but the themes of the songs are similar) unlike the emotionally insecure screaming of Slipknot (they have 4 more members than they need and Cory can't sing for his life), Linkin Park (Chester sounds like he has a vibrator stuck in his larnyx) and of course that poser Fred Durst. SOAD's songs are also quite catchy 99% non-depressing, they'll even make you laugh sometimes. It is for this reason that I find it hard to actually call them nu metal. Maybe Alternative Metal would be better for SOAD. Besides, does their lead singer Serj sound much like your typical screaming nu metal frontman?
Overall, nu metal is like any other musical genre, with good bands and bad ones to match. Good nu metal bands include SOAD, Atreyu, Disturbed, Ill Nino, and some KoRn. Bad ones include poppy bands such as Linkin Pa...
A new generation of metal that isn't as good as old metal. It's generic and the guitar is kinda cheesy with lots of detuned guitars and 7 strings usually, with a mix of clean n heavy vocals.
