a "brother" or someone really close to you. Also, a song by the greatest band ever, 311. The brodels is the nazz, and the nazz knows where it's at. The brodels is the nazz, who knows a cat who can feed a cat. The goal is to be a poet and a carpenter. To be one who loves, to be one who works. The nazz is not something that can be given, the brodel is inside you, it comes from within.

| 44. | Patti Smith | ||

Punk rock's only poet, Patti Smith ranks among the most influential female rock & rollers of all time. Ambitious, unconventional, and challenging, Smith's music was seen as the most exciting fusion of rock and poetry since Bob Dylan. If that hybrid remained distinctly uncommercial for much of her career, it wasn't a statement against accessibility so much as the simple fact that Smith followed her own muse wherever it took her -- from structured rock songs to free-form experimenting, or even completely out of music at times. Her most avant-garde outings drew a sense of improvisation and interplay from free jazz, though they remained firmly rooted in noisy, primitive three-chord rock & roll. She was a powerful concert presence, singing and chanting her lyrics in an untrained but expressive voice, whirling around the stage like an ecstatic shaman delivering incantations. A regular at CBGB's during the early days of NYC Punk, she was the first artist of the bunch to get a record deal and release an album, even beating The Ramones to the punch. The artiness and the amateur musicianship of her work both had a major impact on the Punk Movement, whether in New York or England, whether among her contemporaries (Televisio... more...

| 45. | the pen is mightier than the sword | ||
|
The Pen is Mightier than the Sword is an ancient Arab proverb. Before Islam united them, Arabs were too often engaged in tribal warfare against each other, so much so that one of their many wars, one that lasted for 40 years, was started between two tribes through a camel owned by one tribe drinking from the other's water and the fight that ensued thereafter. In those tribal wars the poet of a tribe was highly esteemed and his ability to deride other tribes in his poetry and claim pride for his own was considered the height of might and the poet was given an honor higher than that of the warrior. To this day a traditional dance performed by men in Arabia revolves around the act of men with swords facing each other in battle formation and each is led by a poet, so that's two poets against each other, and the poets engage in a spontaneous poetry match where one starts with a line of poetry that is repeated by his men in a dance song behind him, and his opponent is required to answer him with a line of poetry that matches it in meter and rhyme - not an easy thing to do - and it continues until one poet is clearly the winner over the other, or, more wisely, until both poets seem to satisfy their men that the issue had been resolved through a display of mutual respect; by that, I mean, that both poets strive to stand to the occasion and show the other that their respective tribes are worthy of respect and won't be intimidated, while displaying respect for each other. more...

Usually stuck up and snobby, and most are rich and attend private schools. They are boy crazy, and a majority of them are not very nice. They look down upon us tomboy/goth types, and assume we are jealous of them simply because we dislike them. This is not true in any way imaginable. We do not envy them to any extent whatsoever, and dislike them due to their constant squealings and words used over and over, such as "like", "OHMIGOSH!", and so on. I am a tomboy/goth and a poet, and am looked down upon by their type because of that. So, I ask thou, preps of the world, why is it that thou must make us feel lower than the ground we walk upon? Why is it that thou must taunt and abuse us?
I detest these types more than anyone on Earth can imagine. And for the last time, to those of you who think we envy them: We are not demons. We are different, and should not be looked down upon by these girls because of it. Preppy Girl: Ugh..you tomboy/goth types are like SO immature!
Tomboy Goth: And who says, bitch? Prep: Like, HEELLOO! Me! You know what, you're just jealous 'cause you ain't me! Tomboy goth: Okay, first of all, learn to speak proper English before you open that overly lip glossed mouth of your's. Second of all, I am NOT jealous of you! I LOATHE you due to YOUR immaturity! I am annoyed by you! Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a skating session. Prep: WTF?! I thought you were a GOTH! Goth's don't skate! Tomboy Goth: Does the term, "Tomboy goth" not get through to your head, Little Miss Perfect? |

| 49. | Uber-newb | ||
|
'Uber' is a German term that's become popular by people in North America (and perhaps other regions, I wouldn't know because I only live in North America). While it really means "above" or "superior to", people use it to mean "very". 'Newb' is the truncation of "newbie" an internet term generally used to describe people who are inexperienced in the workings of the site they are currently on, or with a computer game, but it's gaining popularity offline, and can refer to people who are new to anything. In the context that I use it below, it is both referring to the said person's developing understanding of the specific site, as well as their limited knowledge of literary and poetry work. The inclusion of the prefix "uber" meant that they seemed less certain of things than is usual of the average newb with the same amount of exposure to the website. "If you're into poetry try Rudyard Kipling, or check out my poems."
"I can't find your poem called Rudyard Kipling. I can only see the most recent poems on the front page. How d'you find the rest?" "Wow, you're like an UBER-NEWB, huh? If you want to see the rest of my poetry, you click the button 'Gallery' right below the five poems that are on the front page. And Rudyard Kipling's a poet, not the name of one of my poems." |
