The one hard, time consuming, learning experience that you wait all year for. Spending time with the boys, laughing at the trumpets, being molested by the low brass, never hearing the Clarinets. And making up stupid inside jokes and Callbacks. Hearing the phrase "Alright, one more time and we can have a water break! " from your director. But you never care. You enjoy it.

An activity for people to weak or to much of a baby for normal sports teams. In other words an activity for the physically challenged.

Marching band is a BAND (not sport) that marches in formation while playing music.

The real truth
1. football games are not for you. You don't matter at all. People come for football. You guys are to keep the fans slightly entertained while the football players take a small break.
2. you are sick perverts. You make jokes about fingering and positions.

3. You are not hot. Girls, you are ugly cows. Guys, you are either fat loosers or skinny twigs. The only way you are getting any is from other bandies. I don't know about your school, but in mine, bandies hook up a lot and I vomit inside at some of the couples. I do not get laid a lot but when I do, it is usually an 8,9, or 10. MAYBE a 7. Not like the 4s and 3s in band. Reason why band bus have no lights is because no one wants to see that.

4. Your summer trainings are not that hard. We start practice an hour before you guys (5am) and end at 8. Thats practice. Then I lift weights for an hour THEN go for a long distance run THEN a swim. Yea walking around all day... not as hard as RUNNING all day.

5. Band letters do NOT count. you DO NOT deserve to wear one with a band letter

Exactly what the word implies. A band that marches, usually in formation, on a football field.

I have played Trumpet and Violin, I have been in jazz band, and I have watched my schools marching band practice. We have over 200 members and are near top in the country. (Fairmont Highschool). This being said I will begin my rant.

Marching Band takes skill and time and I respect it's members but it is NOWHERE near as demanding as football. I have heard the "8 hour practices in the 90 degree weather a month before school starts" stuff. Football is a year round sport. During the summer (the WHOLE summer), players practice in full pads sometimes more than twice a day, every day. Players take brutal hits and must always be on top of their assignments. If you have not played on a football team then you will not understand the vast knowledge of the game and mental/physical toughness it takes to be a football player. There are hundreds of plays and dozens of formations that every player is expected to know. The work football players do makes the Marching Band look laughable. Just face it Marching Band kids, you do not work harder than football kids. The only thing you have on football is that you can play instruments while marching in formation.

This definition will have tons of thumbs down which just goes to show how every overzealous band member can't just admit that there ARE in fact people that work harder than them.
