Mapache is the Spanish term for racoon. The word mapache comes from the Aztec word for thief or stealing (mapachoa). Sometimes it is used to address someone who is not trustworthy.
In northern Mexico, mostly in Hermosillo and
Chihuahua, it is also used as a derogatory term for black people. This is very
racist... don't do it. The rest of Mexico and Latin
America never uses the term that way.
