On a personal computer, the usual designation for a parallel port connection to a printer or other device such as a scanner or camera. LPT connections are numbered LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, etc.; most computers have at least one. More parallel ports can be added by installing parallel port adapter cards. :2 LPT LPT is the original, yet still common, name of the parallel port interface on IBM PC-compatible computers. It was designed to operate a text printer that used IBM's 8-bit extended ASCII character set.
