Love, my friend, is a wonderfully, wonderfully, shitty thing.

There have been, and indeed, are, numerous attempts to define love, but the truth is, there really is no set definition.

* Love can mean completely different things to different people.

* For some, it is the heady rush, the constant butterflies and silly smiles that grace one's face.
*For others, love is the ever-present peace, the constant comfort and the assuring knowledge that the one you love is there.
*For others still, it is the aching longing, wanting and mad fits of possessiveness, and even obssession that define love.

One thing that we can be certain of, is that its a powerful thing. I hesitate to say emotion, as it seems much too callous and cold to describe love.

*After all, love has sparked wars, and ended feuds, love has hurt, and love has healed, love has driven mankind to dizzying extremes, only to abruptly bring one back round.

*Love is a fickle thing.

*Love has healed. Love has comforted. Love has made people insanely, foolishly, abnormally euphoric. Love has the ability to send one on an indescribable high, and make everything and anything so much better. The world around you is much more colourful, the people, much more nicer, the conversations more insightful.

*Love has also in shocking contrast, brought out the darker side in us all.
People have murdered for love, stolen, hurt, abused. Countless have died on the fanciful longing of a foolish leader in love. Love makes us foolish, blind and ignorant. It makes us defy our own morals and ideals, just for the slightest sign of affection or approval.

*Love can take many forms.
There is the love between friends, the love for a god, the love of family, the love of an object, or the like, and of course, the love shared between two people in a relationship.

*There is also unrequited love, which is the single most painful thing in the world.
There is also lost love, by which I mean two true lovers who are somehow separated unjustly. Time may have passed, whole continents may separate them, perhaps even death itself, but this love never forgets and thus, still mournfully aches.

*Love is foolhardy and irrational.
It makes no logical sense, to like a person so much so, that you become completely ignorant of their faults and would do absolutely anything if the other would approve.

*Love is a dangerous, dangerous thing. And too many have been hurt by it.

*And so, one wonders, why do we still crave it?

(The little *'s are like, the main points. This isnt much of an exact 'Love is this' type thing but obv. its hard to define it, so Im just writing down my ponderings. :])
An example of love?
Different examples for different people.
Theist = God,
Me = My parents

1. God’s gift, and Satan’s scourge.
2. The final result of the natural chemical blending of unrelated feelings that one holds toward another, which, once synthesized, create an emotion that is independent of the confines of time or the elements of this existence. Though the vitality of that said emotion inevitably weakens and falters, never does it truly filter.
3. A flawed definition for an emotion which modern society has perverted through practicality. Practicality is reserved for a practical world. And in a practical world, things like love would not exist. No, “love” is rather a definition for the dictionary of one’s heart, not Webster’s.
4. A contradiction, a conundrum cloaked in ambiguity.
5. A pleasant thought in a world filled with terrible ideals.
6. A quagmire of depression from which none can immerge unscathed.
7. A force of nature which, like any other natural phenomenon, cannot be civilized, contained or contended. A force which cannot be controlled, avoided, destroyed or escaped and often results in extreme destruction.
8. A terminal illness; much like cancer in its nature. It starts at the heart, spreads to the soul, before inevitably polluting the mind. To date, the medical community remains baffled as to discovering an effective treatment for this potentially fatal malady, much less a cure. Demographically speaking, the young and the foolish are counted among the most susceptible to contract this disease; and the destitute romantics are considered to be exceptionably vulnerable.
9. A vast unknown frontier of thoughts and feelings which only the most fortunate ever have the opportunity to explore.
10. A resilient, false hope eating parasite, which adopts the human heart as its host.
"There is no disguise which can for long conceal love where it exists or simulate it where it does not."

Love is a strong emotion you hold for someone. True, deep love is something most people never find in life. Some may not realise it, some may not want to believe it, but this kind of love can be found in someone you like, just as much as it can be found in someone you hate. The person you love could hurt you, or make you cry, but throughout everything you're feelings remain just as strong. It's about going through all the good times as well as the bad times and feeling the same about them. You may not think about them ever second, talk to them every minute, or cry about them every day, but you know it's true love when you are able to put every bad or hurtful memory aside, and smile at how much they have made you a better person. Love can be confusing, heartbreaking, exhausting, exhilarating or any other emotion imaginable in the world. You may not be with them, but your wishes would be forever their happiness. This love is looking back at all memories, and still smiling at the bad ones, because even without them you couldn't imagine your life. It's a feeling you that is awoken deep within yourself. It's got nothing to do with religion, with gender, with race.. it's got nothing to do with time, with place or with age. You have reasons for liking someone, but for loving someone there is no reason. You love them because you are destined to, because something, underneath the artificial layer of materialism placed on us all by society, is telling us to...

You can't make someone love you.. you can love someone who doesn't love you.. you may not realise it's love until too late.. you cannot love without a whole lot of trust. You feel that way about someone for a reason. When they hold you, when they message you, when they come online, your heart just stops, and that feeling means something. You don't know exactly what, but it's there, that's it, that's love. You love them, they can hurt you, break your heart, but you know you could never let them go, or regret having them in your life. This person has the ability to turn your world upside down, and then inside out, putting you on the most thrilling ride of your life.. all the heartache would be worth it for one moment of that special feeling of love you share. The truth is, if you are ever privileged to find this love, treasure it, but don't suffocate it. And if you lose it, remember it for what it was, not for what it isn't anymore, smile for being able to ever have felt this way. Live your life as if it's worth something, if you were already stripped of everything you trusted then you don't have anything left to lose...
Love is strong yet delicate.
It can be broken.
To truly love is to understand this.
To be in love is to respect this.

A feeling for another person so pure and sacred that nobody can define it to its true extent. It is what a person feels for another without any kind of physical or mental barrier between them. They live purely to be with the other to share experiences, pleasures, problems and pain.

Sadly, the word love is so overused and underrated in the soceity of today, that saying a simple "I love you" could mean something as plain and crude as "I'm really drunk and I want to ride you". It's the sad reality, but love is no longer a word of passion that it was. Unless of course there is that feeling between two people that starts deep in the darkest chamber of their heart and spreads through every cell in their body until it dominates their thoughts.

With love there comes a sense of numbness, that sense that you cannot actually believe what is happening because it seems to be impossible that this is what is actually going on. Being with the person you have longed to be with for so long.

Of course, as with everything, there is a down side to love aswell if it doesn't work out as it so certainly should have. The fair truth is that love hurts. Not like a physical pain, or even like the pain of a big dissapointment. It is a form of pain so overwhelming that it is like love itself in the sense that it occupies all of your thoughts, but instead of the thoughts being good ones, they are replaced with images of what could have been. What should have been. It consumes every aspect of your life for a period of time; relevant to how powerful the feeling of love was in the first place.
Be careful with love, it's a killer.

I love Sophie with all my heart.

Honestly the most painful thing I have ever experienced so far in my life. A source of endless inspiration/pain/euphoria, and a complete reliance on one person to control everything you think or feel.

Unrequited love: When you love someone irrationally as they don't feel the same about you, yet they are all you think about at any time of night or day, whatever you are doing or whoever you are with and it's so painful it makes you want to scream. They are the only person you would wish to describe it to, and the only one you can't.
Do you know how much I love you?
