Labor Day

The day anyone under 60 is merely thankful for the day off rather than for the labor unions that fought for the day off.
"Dad, have another beer and tell us again how you got clubbed by the cops when you and your fellow workers asked for a 5 day work week?"

"It was on Labor Day, Son. Back before you and all your buddies voted to do away with unions."

Labor Day

An American holiday officially recognized by Congress in 1894 in response to public outcry over the violent military ending of the Pullman Strike. Labor Day takes place on the first Monday of September.

The holiday is typically celebrated with picnics and parades commemorating those that fought for better working conditions. Corporations are often at odds with the message of the holiday, and thus, the real history is essentially blacked on on American media. As a result, most Americans do not know what the holiday is for, and associate it was leisure activities and picnics.

This is separate from May 1st, May Day, or International Workers Day, which was created in response to the Haymarket Affair in Chicago, 1886.
"I have the day off and would love to attend the Labor Day parade down-town, but the bus system is shut down on the holiday."

"Are you going anywhere interesting over the Labor Day weekend?"

international label day

International Label Day is celebrated November 21st. This holiday celebrates the beauty of the words we choose to let shape us, the subcultures that we are proud to be part of, and the surprising meaning of the labels we all choose for ourselves!
This year, for International Label Day, my label will be "Introvert" to represent the subculture of introversion.
