In middle and high school, often used to define cliques. There types of labels, such as prep, punk, goth, nerd, skater, etc. that are often determined by how one dresses or the music one listens to (as opposed to their personality) and are inaccurate and may be considered offensive by some people. These types of labels also often cause people who relate with seperate groups of people to call other groups poseur, which then causes even more social problems in middle and high schools. People who choose to label themselves are often insecure. If you're truely happy with who you are a label is not important, and you probably won't care whether you're labeled or not. You know who you are, and that's what matters.
2. "Look at those goths over there! They're so WEIRD!"
3. "Those girls with the Slipknot T-shirts on are such poseurs!"
2.Title to one who acts like a cetain group, or dresses the same as a band or artist in which they favor. Such labels are as follows: Goth, Emo, Guido, Skater, Jock etc. Some would say waste of time to label others, becuase of the way they dress, or behave. Some also disagree to that and say "Labels are like a genre, meaning by having labels means the basic's of your behavior and/or sound.". Labels do not define. who you are but give people a certain idea of what you like, and would dress like.
1. "tell me what that label says on that bottle"
2a. "Labeling Goth: Look at these goth girls!, wtf are they doing wearing converse with, a red plade skirt"
2b. "Labeling Emos: I hate emo's all they do is sit at home listen to music to make them more sad then what they alrdy are, because they have it so bad!"
2c. "Labeling Jocks: Jocks can suck my dick and go play grab ass, cuz all they care bout are themselves and there sport."
2d. "Labeling Skaters:....enough said"
generally people don't like to be labeled, but it's often half their fault. if emo is the only thing you give off, expect to be called it
but labeling isn't a good thing to do, no matter how "emo" or whatever someone is. labeling is judgement
"oh my gosh, look at that girl dressed all in black, she's definently a goth, i wouldn't never hang out with goths, yuck." SERIOUSLY USING LABELS AND TOTALLY JUDING WHETHER OR NOT TO HANG OU WITH SOMEBODY BASED ON LABELS AND NOT OKAY.
Urban definition: Almost the same as the diciontary definition, but specified more toward a person or group's style or behavior. Examples would be: prep, goth, emo, punk, skater, scene, nerd, jock, etc. A common phrase relating to labels is "Labels are for soup cans," which pretty much means "Don't label people."
But according to the dictionary, you're supposed to label people. And that doesn't just mean "prep" or "emo." What most people don't realize is that everything from gender to religion falls under the category of "labels." So lesson one is, don't think all labels "are for soup cans."
Also, even the labels that are like "prep" or "emo," are they really that bad? I'd agree that they're bad if somebody were to say "I hate all preps," because obviously, not all preps are the same. But if somebody were to just say "I'm a prep," it's not doing any harm. Someone who willingly calls themself by a label must not think badly of labels. Even if somebody calls you a label that you aren't, it doesn't really matter what they think, as long as they don't judge you on it. So, lesson two is, it doesn't really matter what label you are, it just matters how you consider yourself.
-ZOMG LABELZ R 4 SOUP CANS!
Or those words we all call each other like geek, nerd, dork, emo, jock, scene, prep, goth, punk, druggie... and so on.
Look up the words scene, emo, or goth up on this website and what do you get? either
1. Those fags that go to concerts all the time, wear makeup, no matter if you're a boy or girl, look down on everyone, wear skinny jeans, act depressed when there is really nothing wrong with them or their life, and are not unique at all.
2. Someone who is depressed, not understood at all, hates life, wears black, sees life differently than everyone else. Wears tight shirts, very very tight shirts.
Now look up jock or prep and you get
1)A dumbass who looks down on everyone, has sex only with cheerleaders, beats everyone besides other jocks up.
2)a slut who is followed by a group of 2-4 other clones that all look the same, wears all pink all the time, has sex constantly and a IQ with 2 digits. Always blonde.
3) a person who shops at Hollister, American Eagle, Abercrombie and Fitch, and other highly expensive stores.
4) a person who wears polo's tennis skirts or khakis. A person who gets everything because of their money. Insanely rich and flaunts it.
OR even look up geek, nerd, dork and you get
1) someone who is not very smart but enjoys playing video games, being on the internet, and avoiding the social world at all costs.
2) someone who is overly smart and made fun of in high school because of this, is normally covered in acne and very ugly.
Now do we all fit in these groups categories. Are we all called one of these by other people? yes most likely.
But what if you're like me which could be very very very likely.
You shop at Hollister, American Eagle, and Abercrombie and Fitch. But Hot Topic also. Someone who wears polo's and tight graphic tee's. Someone who's smart but plays sports and is good at them. Someone who goes to a concert most weekends? Someone who enjoys a myspace account. Who has a few selfy pics but tons with friends too. Someone who's hair is clean but choppy. That has 5 skinny jeans in various colors and 5 flare jeans too. Someone who has a few ratty converse and some flashy heels too. Someone that gets on the internet at least once a day but hangs with friends everyday too. Someone who has acne that every teenager has, but it's not overly hard to control. Who has friends by he labels of emo scene, goth, nerds, geeks, dorks, jocks, preps, and even druggies.
What label would you give me hmm?
because we all want to be in a label, one we like a choose. but because we all don't fit into just one label does that make us all posers? yes yes it does.
So there you go I'm a poser and so is every single one of you.
Me: wtf?! y r u using a label on that poor innocent kid?
