A phrase, usually in farewell, said between members of the 'countryside' community to will on and promote an honorable lifestyle and proud existence.

Also used to tell one to 'calm down' or 'relax'.

Originated in Ireland.

Farmer A: "Right I better go plough a few furrows here, fella."

Farmer B:"No bother, you keep her country!"

Offering a woman other options -- any options -- to secure her financial livelihood rather than resorting to working as a stripper, or other acts of desperation in the sex industry (prostitution, relying on a Sugar Daddy, working in porno, posing as a nude model)

I gave the girl a job cleaning my house...anything to keep her off the pole!
After my favorite ho' went to rehab and got clean, I had to help find the girl some work -- anything to keep her off the pole!

Keep going. Do not stop. Used as encouragement. Often used as a parting cry.

Originated from a story about an IRA ambush on the SAS near Cappagh in Co Tyrone when one IRA volunteer remarked to another who was firing on the SAS vehicle "Keep her lit!" meaning to continue firing.

Has taken on common usage among Irish republicans especially in the north of Ireland and Co Tyrone.

Has recently received national focus due to a campaign by radio host Hectoc O hEochagain on RTE 2fm

One IRA volunteer to another "Keep her lit, them SAS men are still moving"

One departing friend to his mates "I'm off lads, keep her lit!"
