940. Scientology
A, Word created by a german scientist in the 1920s meant to mean "how to know" or "knowing how to know" as an attempt at creating a theory of knowledge

B, Paranoid cult founded by pulp-science fiction writer and Lafayett Ronald Hubbard who stole the word Scientology to describe the movement originaly named Dianetics after his (unfortunatly) bestselling book after he´d gotten into trouble with the many people he´d licensed the name "dianetics" to. What started as a (supposedly) self-help book based (supposedly) on scientific experimentation (but since L Ron never made any experiments it was most likely dreamt up from his somewhat warped and drug-influenced imagination, much like his war record which allthough claimed by Hubbard and the church to be outstanding most notably includes him ordering the bombardment of an iron deposit on the sea floor mistaking it for a submarine and him almost dragging Mexico into the WWII by using a mexican island for target practice) grew into a movement after people started sending L Ron money to be educated as auditors (the people performing one of the most essential (and possibly brain-washing) techniques of the cult to supposedly help people). L Ron later created scientology as a way of gaining more control over the training and for him most essentialy the money payed to the movement.

Among the history of scientology a few things...

941. Hackney Trilby
Directly influenced by the Bukakke craze that swept Japanese secondary schools in the late 90s, a Hackney Trilby is the act of several men blasting off in to a trilby (or any brimmed hat) and placing it on to the head of a subject (often male).

So called because the practise originated in Hackney amongst the homosexual gangster hairdressing scene (hence why the only people who wear trilbys in Hackney are gay hairdressers).
Dave - Did you borrow my hat last night?

Mike - Sorry mate, we were down the Angel gagging for a Hackney Trilby and it was the only one around... do you want it back?

943. post-punk
A term referring the first real wave of art punk bands, and probably the most influential and popular movement in the history of art punk. In truth, the term "post-punk" is something of a misnomer, as post-punk developed with and along side late 1970s classic punk as opposed to after it, as the prefix "post-" would imply.

The roots of post-punk lie in the early work of the Velvet Underground, a mid-to-late 1960s act associated with artist Andy Warhol and one of the first to blend hard-edged garage rock with avant-garde concepts pioneered by classical music in the 20th century. Similarly-minded groups that followed soon after like Roxy Music, Hawkwind, and the Krautrock movement on the whole were also important, in addition to African-American and Carribean music styles like harder-edged funk and soul and certain types of reggae, in particular dub reggae, respectively. Some solo work by artists such as Iggy Pop, David Bowie and Brian Eno also contributed much to post-punk's development.

Post-punk came right with punk. In America, bands like Talking Heads and Television played right along side more traditional punk bands the Ramones and the Dead Boys at New York City venues CBGB's and Max's Kansas C...
