974. three dollar Bill
Noun; A great band out of Chicago.
Charming and subversive without breaking a sweat, this Chicago rock band is a DIY favorite.
Defining post-punk attitudes with stinging guitars, catchy melodies, and an irresistibly pounding rhythm section,
THREE DOLLAR BILL hooks you with songs full of pleading desire, lust and rage.

What makes THREE DOLLAR BILL a rare catch is their knack of mixing metal edginess and puncrock
energies into a sound that becomes entirely their own. The haunting harmonies of The Breeders,
Sleater-Kinney and X; the guitar riffs of AC/DC; the political wit of the Dead Kennedys; the dissonance
of Nirvana, Sonic Youth and The Cure---THREE DOLLAR BILL hits on the nerve of Alternative and Indie
rockers alike. www.threedollar.net
The Three Dollar Bill show was amazing last night.

975. elliot smith
Folk-rock singer who was considered one of the best songwriters of his generation. He was best known for his songs from the film "Good Will Hunting" and songs that focused on drug addiction, failed relationships, self-loathing, suicide etc. His music was very sad, indeed.

He started out as an indie singer in Portland, but gained more recognition when Gus Van Sant decided to use some of his songs from his 1997 album called "Either/Or" (which is probably his best album). Smith also wrote a song for the movie called "Miss Misery," which earned him an Academy Award nomination. Unfortunately, he lost to Celine Dion (It was the "Titanic" year).

Sadly, Smith took his own life in Fall of 2003 by plunging a knife to his heart. He was 34

Smith has done 6 albums; "Roman Candle," self-titled album "Elliott Smith," "Either/Or," "XO," "Figure 8" and a posthumous release called "From a Basement on a Hill."
People will still be listening to Elliott Smith 40 years from today.

976. hood
1. Post-rock/Indie band from the UK named after the HMS Hood

2. Famous British battleship (HMS Hood) that was sunk in WW2 by the rival German Battleship Bismarck. Some actually claim the Prinz Eugen fired the fatal shot. No one really knows for sure.
The Brits got their revenge a couple days later when an entire fleet of the country's best ships surrounded the Bismarck and decimated it. The Germans claimed that the Brits were never actually able to sink it and that they scuttled it themselves.
that new Hood album is kinda boring.

977. The Sins
A Palo Alto indie band that defies all genres of rock. They aren't post-grunge, horror punk, or whatever you kids say it is, they are rock revival. Some of The Sins songs have their own genres besides rock revival and it comes from the three members:
Joel=punk
Ethan=alternative
Karen=goth,post-punk, metal
"We are The Sins and we suck!" Joel Chatriagy
978. bad religion
Back in the time before MTV, there was a thing called "passion for music". Now, some of you may not know what that is and I can't blame you, for you have been victimized by MTV through bain washing. Anyways in this age of "musical passion", there existed a band called Bad Religion, who were very young at the time. They would form Epitaph Records, an independent record label that gave creative control to its bands not seen in like, forever. This record label would produce amazing bands such as NOFX, Bad Religion, Rancid, Dropkick Murphys, Offspring, and Pennywise. This record label was like the mecca, or holy grail, of aspiring punk rock bands of the 90s. These bands didn't need publicity, to be expoited by MTV. They proved that you can live and be in an indie band at the same time. Now, I don't know what went wrong with punk rock along the lines, but these new bands just suck.
To make a long story short, just get Bad Religion's newest cd, The Empire Strikes First, and you will never go Good Charlotte again.
979. state radio
The best new indie band in the Northeast, featuring Chad Stokes Urmston from the most famous band in indie music history, Dispatch. They play reggae infused rock with such a great beat. Check them out at www.stateradio.com !!!

980. the killers
A VASTLY overrated band, capitalizing on the recent Franz Ferdinand dance-rock craze (which is also vastly overrated) Music like this tends to be popular with musically retarded guys looking for "indie cred" and superficial girls trying to show that they are musically enlightened because they "like a weird new band I heard on MTV2". In actuality, they don't think it gets much better than shit like Ryan Cabrera and Maroon 5.
You can always tell who a Killers fan is by the fact that he or she can only name one Killers song (somebody told me)
