"Yes, it's true that millions of people suffered. But every time some brings up the subject, you feel the need to inform them that people other than the Jews died. Does that mean that their deaths are any more or less meaningful? Does it merely reflect your insecurity with the fact that a different ethnic/religious 'team' has the upper hand in the fundamentally strange, myopically inhumane moral hierarchy by which you live?"
"What are you saying about me, man? I'm not one of those spooky deniers or anything. I just want to make sure people understand something about it, you know. About what the event means, about who it effected."
"There's nothing to understand. The Holocaust lacks historical precedent and defies comprehension. We're not talking about a goddamn kids show, wherein an exciting new life lesson is imputed to the events surrouding a childish error of judgment minor moral quandry... We're talking about the slaughter of millions. Try for a moment to fathom that. The Nazi's murder-machine was more efficient when it came to killing the Jews because members of that group, confined to ghettos and/or the Pale of Settlement for untold generations, could very easily be rounded up and shipped to death camps. When Hitler first devised his philosophy, the Jews drew an unfair proportion of his ire, probably because he recognized that the long, glorious history of anti-semitism in Europe could be exploited to buoy support among the masses. The people of Germany was receptive to state-sponsored anti-semitism and willfully ignorant of their government's worst excesses, so it's kinda difficult to write them off as having simply 'followed orders.' Basically, wherever you turn, you'll find skulls in towering heaps, and that's about it. By the way, crediting the Holocaust with laying the groundwork for the state of Israel is reasonably accurate, albeit representative of either some informed person's egregiously opportunistic bent or the lengths to which the average man will go to rationalize mind-boggling atrocities."
"Gee, and here I was thinking you'd commiserate with me."
