Meaning: something so unpleasant you can't help but be riveted by it, for example, Bill O'Reilly, Pat Robertson, Rebecca Black, the Westboro Baptist Church, and the smell of one's own farts. Margie Phelps announcing that Westboro Baptist Church will be picketing Steve Job's funeral -- from her iPhone -- was pure hathos.
