punk rock is a style of music

punk is a word created by the media to describe artists and followers of the punk rock movement. only after that did people start labeling themselves as "punks". As in many other genres punk rock bands never called themselves punks and resisted using the word to describe themselves and each other.

and yes, punk rock is dead. some say it died with kurt cobain, others say it died with sid vicious. either way it is dead.

punk rock is dead and that's the truth.
4. punk rock
A genre of guitar-based rock and roll typified by fast tempos, short song duration, and aggressive delivery. Despite its "short, fast, and loud" nature, punk rock is essentially melodic. Non-"pop" punk rock is known as "hardcore."

Punk rock began in the middle 1970s with bands like The Stooges, The Ramones, and The Sex Pistols and was initially a reaction to the overproduced, lengthy, plodding corporate rock that had come to dominate the landscape. The "new wave" lasted until approximately 1982, when there was a move away from original punk to more aggressive hardcore. A second wave of punk erupted in the late 1980s and early 1990s, peaking in 1994. The genre continues to this day (as does it's musical sibling, hardcore).

While there is a philosopy closely related to punk rock ("Do It Yourself") and a visual style closely associated with punk rock (torn jeans, spikey hair, chuck taylors, etc.), please note that punk rock is a FORM OF MUSIC.

5. Hardcore Punk
Hardcore Punk is a subgenre of Punk Rock which originated in North America in the late 70's. The sound is thicker, heavier, and faster than 1970s-style Punk Rock. It is characterized by short, loud, and passionate songs.

It was call Punk at first and not Punk Rock as classic Punk was called. In the ealy 80's it was called Hardcore Punk

Hardcore Punk started in L.A with the band Black Flag and in D.C with the band Minor Threat and Bad Brains; which are the big three bands of early Hardcore Punk.

In the 90's heavy metal bands tried to get into Hardcore with out being Punk. Which is not Hardcore at all. The Hardcore movent and sound is still Punk and always will be. Metalcore is metal music not Hardcore Punk. There is still Harcore Punk bands around today, and that are not metal bands claiming to be Hardcore with out being Punk. A few of them are,

The Casualties
Cheap Sex
Devotchka
Dropkick Murphys
Lower Class Brats
No Use For A Name
Pennywise
Rise Against
Suicide Machines
The Unseen
And more.

6. punk rock
A type of music ussually simple, ussually blasting policital influenced songs that have been watered down in the 90's, but not killed. punk rock has pre existed its actual definition, as it is an expression musically agianst a government that would step on the people. many people believe that punk rock can only be 3 chords and simple lyrics as the last definition stated, which is very over stereotyped and false. Thier are many forms of punk including crust punk, hardcore, screamo and so forth, pop punk is not punk in any way.
real punk rock is not confined to over simplistic chords and lyrics but can have talented musicians (ie. the dead kennedys, DOA, SNFU, pennywise)
7. the unseen
The Unseen are one of the greatest modern day punk bands out there. They showed and are still showing true punk. They set an awesome example to other punk bands and show TRUE punk, not Green Day, Good Charlotte or Simple Plan. They take their music seriously, but still have time to fool around and make re-makes of songs that you wouldn't think a hardcore punk band would re-make. Such as 'Beat It' by Michael Jackson. They aren't afraid to state their opinions in words or in songs. Such as 'Fuck the KKK.'
The Unseen are a GREAT punk band; they're awesome live and love talking to fans after their shows.
