Someone who likes the darker side of things. Real Goths are not depressing and suicidal like the posers you see at Hot Topic. Goths are fun to be around and aren't afraid to laugh at themselves every so often. They don't worship Satan and aren't evil despite what some ignorant people might say. Goths don't all dress alike either. They like to create their own unique style. Goths are also very intelligent and creative. A lot of them are writers and artists. Goths do not envy the popular people. They are what they are because it makes them happy. Goths would rather stay who they are and be among the so called "freaks" than be like everyone else and be popular. They understand that there are more important things in life than popularity. A person who likes to dress and act differently to the other people in society, normally in black but some like much brighter colors. They tend to be thinkers and more often than not quite creative. They have a cynical sense of humor, and are able to laugh at both themselves and other people. They listen to and appreciate all sorts of good music. They can be gay/ depressed/ weird/ mentally disturbed, but more often than not they are just normal people. A Goth will walk alone where others will hide inside their herd. A Goth will insult only those who have earned it whereas others will insult people for things as shallow as the clothes they are wearing. To many people, Goths are : unhappy people, wanting to kill themselves, and listen to ' goth ' music..

But to me they are : Happy people trying to have fun, not wanting to kill themselves and listen to GOOD music.

Someone who likes the darker side of things. They usually listen to death metal and goth music, such as Dismember and Bauhaus. Marilyn Manson is NOT goth. He's just...weird. If someone becomes "goth" because they couldn't get any friends or are depressed and angry all the time, they are most likely a poser.

A goth is just a person, usually one who appreciates both the "positive" and "negative", the "yin" and "yang", "good" and "evil" aspects of life. Usually goths believe that there's nothing in this world that can be completely spelled out in black and white. Usually goths tend to wear black clothing, ornate with metal, but also often enjoy interspersing it with bright colours. A lot of goths dye their hair or have piercings, or wear lots of makeup... which is more an artistic outlet than anything. I guess goths just focus on the dark side of things, because to do so is to be on sort of the "other side" of most of society, which they do enjoy, regardless of what they say. Often goths shop at the hot topic, which doesn't automatically define one as a poseur. Nor does it make someone gothic to shop there. Gothic music doesn't make much of a presence in society these days, though darkwave/industrial/synthpop/black,death metal are often mistaken for "gothic" music. Music that is actually gothic? Joy Division, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus, The Cure, etc. These bands are listened to by many people who are not gothic, and no one at the time really labelled it as such. Gothics are just members of an almost completely undefined subculture. Gothics are generally good, benevolent, empathetic, artistic, intelligent, well-read people.
There is the odd asshole, but the same can be said for every group. Gothics almost always can appreciate all kinds of music. Many gothics enjoy list...

In short, the American version of the British greebo. They're...different. Not really fitting into any category people try to force them into. They think, act, say, wear and listen to what they want without shame. They ohnestly dont give a fuck what any one else thinks or says. They dont follow any trends. They do what they do because it fits they're liking's. They dont care if you think they look stupid, not caring if you like them or if you hate them. You can hurl insults, or give complaments. They dont really liked being labled ANYTHING(but this is for all you "SPECIAL" people who need a lable to brand them with). Thoe diverse from one another most hybrids have one thing in common,
most of them listen to different types of rock music. And they keep getting mixed in with goths and skaters. But they're not them. They have traits from all of these sub-culture groups,hence the name "hybrids". They're usually smart, quick witted, artisticall, and deep. And they can think up an insult or come back in a snap. They're a bit more violent then they're British counter-parts(probobly cause we're American). But usually they're lade back, just happy being them. They dont go looking for trouble, just wanting to have fun, but they're always ready to through down. Insults dont really do much to 'em since they think every one's opinion isn't worth a flying fuck, but we're sick of being labled

I have read most of the definitions on this page. Most are not true. In fact, over half on here are defiantly not happy with their lives, if they need to mock or threaten other cultures… same with religion, I must say. If Christians have such a strong belief in god and are happy with it, why do they need to poke at Satanists or pagans. Be proud of what you believe in, there are now laws protecting Satanists and occults.

There is hardly anything left of the 'Goth' scene today, all of the Goths either dress like eras from the past or either what they think the future will look like.

Being ‘Goth’ is not about self inflicted harm. Some of you may have serous problems and feel suicidal and may self harm. Do not boast about cutting for attention, and then complain about the more popular people round you needing attention all the time. Some of you may be unhappy, some incredibly happy with their lives. Cyber ‘Goths’ are always clubbing and dancing, they are labeled Goth and yet they are not dressing to show off that they cut themselves. If you had serous pain in some time of your live, and want to show people that you are ok now, proudly show your scars, it proves that you lived through drug abuse/child abuse or anything that made you commit that.

To all the teenagers out there who are dressing in black and claiming to be members of an occult, and always complain about not being around other people and have no friends. Why do you dress like that? It’s just intimidating a...

Goths who are too cool to be goth.
They like music where the lead singer has been kicked in the balls one too many times.
Faces are usually horrifically disfigured so they cover it with hair.
Atleast, this is what I'm lead to believe.
While to be "emo" you're supposed to act depressed, emo chicks actually act kind of perky.
In this way they're like preps but with pretty scars.
