American Idiot Fans: The fans who tend to 'type lyekk diz'; only know of Green Day as 'that hawwt billy jo'. Like Green Day after the release of American Idiot and cannot name a song on Dookie. Also known as poseur.

Real Fans: The fans who might have been around in the Dookie era, or maybe just heard of Green Day with the release of American Idiot; these type of fans are the fans that, whichever era they started liking Green Day, are obsessed. These are the fans that know every single song on every single album and all the lyrics.

Real Green Day fans are those who stick around, even though Green Day is now mainstream; the ones who respect Green Day and are proud of their fame.

The "question" of who's a Green Day fan or not.

Some people (Green Day snobs) think that because they knew of Green Day before "American Idiot" they knew Green Day before they went mainstream. They think that anyone who didn't know about them before "American Idiot" is a poser. The "better fans" seem to think that when Green Day won a grammy for "Dookie", and "Dookie" sold ten million copies, it wasn't going mainstream.

It's annoying when people only like Green Day because they think Billie Joe "is hott", and people can be pissed, but telling said teeny-bopped off won't do anything.

Started releasing music as independant artists and in 1993 signed to a major label to release their hit classic, Dookie, which would go on to sell 15million copies worldwide. After their 1995 album Insomniac, the band would expirment with other genres such as hardcore punk, ballads and folk punk (as seen in Nimrod and Warning). The band's latest album, American Idiot, shows them experimenting with rock operas and more politically driven lyrics, as well as a less distortant, cleaner sound. Their new, political, left wing image caused many older GD fans to critisize them as "sell - outs" when they had been on a major label for over ten years. Sadly, most of their new fans only know them from American Idiot and never heard the old green day, who sounded more like a mixture of the Sex Pistols and The Ramones.

A pop-punk band that became extremely popular with the release of their third album,'Dookie', which was released in 1994 and sold over 10 million records.Green Day revived their popularity in 2004 with their critically acclaimed album,American Idiot.This album proved controversial with fans because Green day garnered many new fans that never knew who they were until this album was released.Although to this day 'Dookie' still remains the highest selling Green Day album and a favorite of most fans.
