A term used to vilify women for exercising her right to say no because somewhere along the line men got the idea that women are obligated to date or sleep with anyone who talks to them or who they're friends with, and if they don't they're horrible people. Bob: Wahhh Suzy put me in the friend zone!
George: Oh forget her! She's a heartless bitch! All women are the same! Suzy: Excuse me? First of all I can't help the fact that I'm not attracted to Bob like that. Second of all I lost one of my closest friends who it turns out was only pretending to be my friend in hopes of getting in my pants, and I'm the villian here? |

The state of being denied relationship status because the other considers you a "Friend they don't want to lose". This more commonly affects men, as women get too into the friendship to consider the other in a sexual or romantic way. Men are more likely to stick it out and try and get into her pants and/or heart. Most women do it unconsciously, they like the person so much they don't want risk losing the friendship. They would also say they don't want to lose the friend as an attempt to soften the rejection. James: "Hey I really like you, so do you want to go see a movie or something."
Mary: "I would really like that, except you're such a good friend that I can't think of you like that." James: 'Inside of his head' "Damn, not the friend zone." |

The friend zone is the mythical place where a man is put into despite known/unknown sexual/romantic feelings for a woman. Everybody then thinks of the woman as a bitch or rude, even though she really just doesn't have any romantic/sexual feelings for the man, but thinks he's a great person and wants to be friends with him. Alex: Oh man, Sheila just friendzoned you so hard! The friend zone sucks! She's such a bitch, any girl would be lucky to have you!
Ted: I know, man. I irrationally hate her now. ~ Sheila: Ted is such a great guy, I'm lucky to be friends with him! Cassandra: I know! Would you mind setting me up on a date with him? Sheila: Sure! I think it would be great if he was in a relationship with someone! I would date him myself, but I don't have any romantic or sexual feelings for him. But you would make a great girlfriend! |

The worst place in the world to be, and a place where every decent guy will find himself eventually. If you're a nice guy, as far as most girls are concerned you might as well be a gay guy, because both are considered undatable and un-fuckable. Girl: You're such a great guy. Every time I got drunk and slept with my violent and abusive ex, you were always there for me.
Guy: Yea, I get it, I'm in the friend zone. Girl 2: I just want to be friends. I'm not looking for a relationship now. Guy 2: Translation: you want someone else. Girl 2: Correct. |
