firmware 

noun.

(a) Low-level software that is not usually changed. Firmware is now often stored in EEPROM or Flash memory, so it can be erased and updated.

(b) Historically, software that was stored in read-only chips. Since it could not be changed without a hardware change, it was called firmware.

(c) Commonly used to describe any software on a handheld device.
The firmware in my handheld is corrupted, and now it won't even boot.

Reference to strong alcohol. The Indians used this word to describe alcohol given to them by the white colonists.

firewater freakout 

An alcohol induced freakout which usually include death threats, crying, physical violence, paranoia, and bouts of extreme mood swings that are a precursor to the above mentioned activities.

Is used to describe any alcohol induced freakout, not just the ones from hard liquor.
After drinking the entire bottle of whiskey, the lightweight had a firewater freakout. It took three football players to take his ass down before he stopped hitting his girlfriend.
