The people of the Philippines

Filipinos are often unfairly stereotyped.

Filipinos are NOT Mexicans of the East. We are as different as watermelon and oranges.

The median income of Filipinos in the States (check the U.S. census bureau for supporting info) is higher than that of white, blacks, latinos and even Chinese-Americans & Korean-Americans.

The AIDS rate in the Philippines is noticeably lower than that of Japan, China and America.

Filipinos have many amazing, more than worthwhile accomplishments

The Phil national hero Jose Rizal travelled to Japan, Austria, Germany and San Francisco. There are busts & monuments dedicated to the cities/towns he visited. In Wilhelmsfeld Germany, there is a street named "José-Rizal-Straße" (Jose Rizal Street). It is named after him.

Currently, Manny Pacquiao, Donito Donaire, Charice Pempengco and Arnel Pineda are raising the bar of Filipino pride.

Other successes include fashion designer Monique Lhuillier and singer Lea Salonga ~

However, there are Filipinos who also made contributions in math & science. Google search, Filipino mathematicians or Filipino inventors!

Filipinos are a people of many talents and memorable positive characteristics.

They are part of what makes this world, amazing.
If u want an example of how hardcore an individual of Filipino heritage can be, read about the U.S. army scout sniper Ramon Subejano.

Contrary to American belief, Filipino people are actually very much like the other SE Asian countries. They have strong family values and suffer from political corruption and Muslims. However, Filipinos on UrbanDictionary are clearly susceptible to raging for some reason. Anyway, here are some reasons other countries have us figured wrong:

*When, persay, a Filipino student arrives in the U.S, he/she is immediately under the pressure of American society at school to be what they keep saying. Some Filipinos will go along with it and become "ghetto Asians." Others will fight it. Still, others may try to stay under the radar so they don't need to hear any more ignorance.

*They believe that just because we were an export colony of Spain, that were all a bunch of Mexicans. While it is true that about 2% are part Spanish, that leaves the rest to be Pacific Islander and Asian. Even so, it's not your race that determines your personality.

*Since America is the dominant power, what rumors flow out of there are considered superior (to a diminishing extent, however).

*In other Asian countries, they are similarly racist towards Filipinos and face discrimination, thus, get worse jobs than if they were of different descent.

Filipinos are not just "another race". We are hardworking, honest, and proud to be alive and well. Our country may be small, but we still love and respect it. Who cares if we're short? Who cares if we're poor? We live everywhere in the world. We don't eat rice and work all day. We have vacation time! Some of us are ANNOYED and ANGERED by the stereotypes that Americans and other people make up about us. We try to be friendly and on good terms with people. But sometimes people just don't care...

In conclusion, a Filipino is an honest, kind, loyal, and friendly person. A Filipino is WHO I AM!!!
I AM A FILIPINO!!!!!!!!!!

Racially, there is no such thing as "Filipino" race. This is because Filipinos consist of Spanish, Chinese, African, Indian, Polynesian, Austronesian etc. blood. They are among the most resilient and adaptable people on Earth. You can find them in the coldest parts of Alaska or Canada, to hottest part of Middle East, to the roughest of oceans as seafarers. They are generally small and short in stature, but are much tougher than they appear. Their faith in their religion and their family bonds make them the mentally toughest group of people in the world. Filipinos particularly those who grew up in the Philippines are shy and unassuming. However, behind those meekness lies the heart of a lion! Filipinos who grew up in the first world countries generally are arrogant.

Filipinos are very hospitable and friendly, often misinterpreted by English-speaking Europeans or Americans as something else. Life is tough in the Philippines that's why Filipinos go abroad even in places like Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia or Nigeria. If you think your life is tough due to the current economic situation? You ain't seen nothing, mate. Go live in the Philippines and you'll see what really "tough situation" means from a Filipino perspective. No matter how bad a situation is, a Filipino will always find a reason to laugh.
Manny Pacquiao is a great example of a Filipino. He is far from perfect that is why he represents the "real Filipino" as opposed to Jose Rizal or those elite people of the past.
