Ok, The Philippines is populated by Austronesian people. Austronesia means, "the southern islands." This is the name of our language family as well as our ancient culture and racial stock. For those of you that feel we are ASIAN, in part we are. The Chinese have been coming around since about 1000 AD. They have mixed with us over the years. During the 13th century trade increased with mainland Asia and for a while it became popular and a sign of status to marry a foreign wife among the nobility.

For those of you that feel we are PACIFIC ISLANDERS, the answer to that question is YES. Our native languages are closely related to Indonesian, Microneisan and Polynesian as well as the natives of Taiwan who were there before the Chinese. Like us and other PACIFIC ISLANDERS, they tattooed, have similar mythologies, practiced head-hunting, built canoes etc. So are Filipinos ASIANS or PACIFIC ISLANDERS? The answer is BOTH. Check out: apat-na-alon-tribe.com for info on our ancient tattooing.

A word on ALIBATA or BAYBAYIN.
This writing style is not indigenous to the Philippines. It was introduced by Indic-Malay traders about the 12th century. This is why words like "langit" are spelled "la-ngi" without the final "T." Hard consenants in Alibata were not used until the Spanish created the "x" or "+" marks to indicate a vowel closing consenant. This also explains why ALIBATA was not used to record histories etc. because it was not native. We passed on our geneologies and history orally like other ancient Austronesian groups. Alibata has been adopted into our culture like so many things in our past.
If you want to do a simple test to see if you are Pacific Islander, go to another Pacific Islander and ask them if "mata" means "eye" in their language too. Chances are that their word will be the same or very similar. Samoan, Tongan and Tahitian say "mata." Hawaiian is "maka." Chamorro is "ata."

Filipino is specifically a native of the Philipines. Mostly considered 'Pacific Islanders', Filipino's are also classified under the stereotype of 'Asian'. Most Filipino's are decendents from the Spanish, because of past History.

In the United States, most Filipino's are seen pursing jobs in the Medical Fields, Military, and Engineering.
That Spanish-looking, Hawaiian skin colored person, must be filipino.

A type of Asian group. They can go as Asians or Pacfic Islanders. In America, Filipinos can be seen usually as a follower of african-american culture or a prep. The prep instance happens more often. The stereotype that they are wealthy is false. They are just budget-conscious and they get their nice clothes (filipinos love Lacoste with a passion) cheap. Although they may be wealthy, they are very humble people, just not really by appearance. (You see a woman with a Dooney & Bourke purse and a Tommy Hilfiger shirt.) Overall, they are a hard-working people who tend to be successful in life.
Wow, you must be Filipino. Look at your flat nose, and brand-name clothing! TALAGA!

A Filipino is a person that can easily be mistaken as a hispanic. They are from asia in a group of islands called the Phillippines. They can be, and are ussually called an "oriental asian" or a "pacific islander".

Most Filipino's have a darker skin tone, flat nose, have a mustache, and smart. They love their rice and eat rice with every meal. Most Filipino's are short, and the Filipino parents are very strict and yell alot. They have wierd last names. Most Filipino's are also religous. They are ussualy Christian. Alot of Filipino's try to act gangster while the rest just dont fall under a stereotype.

Filipino's in america are strongly bonded together. They help each other out and are very friendly to each other. They are ussually part of the middle class. While Filipino's in the Phillippines are either poor or rich. They are still friendly to each other and help one another but the goverment is corrupt and the economy is horrible.
