Alright, here's the REAL definition of emo. It will be broken up since there are two definitions. There's the style of music, and there's the lifestyle.

1) Emo music is a sub-genre of punk. It is often characterized by high-pitched male vocals and lyrics in which emotion(hence the name) is expressed. The lyrics often have to do with betrayal, lost loves, "broken hearts", suicide/SMB (self-mutilating behaviors), and depression. Bands such as Dashboard Confessional were thought to have created the emo genre. See also: screamo.

2) The emo "lifestyle" has changed somewhat over the years. It started off with kids who were pretty much the outcasts. The guys were thought to be in touch with their sensitive side and they would wear rectangular framed glases, scarfs (much like those seen in Harry Potter), tight t-shirts, and occassionally tight pants. They would listen to emo music, and often be depressed. However, this has changed. Now, emo boys can be distinguished by their long (usually black and sometimes with a streak of another color) hair, which is cut in such a style so that it covers one eye or half of their face, and their skinny figures. They also wear eyeliner(not always), tight t-shirts, girl pants(sometimes), usually some sort of hoodie or hooded jacket, and usually sport black fingernails. emo kid

an emo kid is someone who is always stereotyped. someone who just is who they are and are ostracized for it. someone that i would want to be friends with. and emo boys are usually extremely hot. emo couples can be really close, and it's not all about sex. i'd want that kind of relationship! sometimes emo kids live straight edge, which means they don't do gangsta stuff like drinking, drugs and sex. sometimes emo kids can be depressed, but for the most part it's a stupid stereotype. everyone is different! and not all emo boys are gay, most of them are straight.

An emo kid, is someone who listens to emo music and wears the emo style.

For boys the emo style is:
black, or multi-Colored hair, with side bangs
tight band t-shirts, or shirts with funny slogans
tight jeans
lip ring (usually)
eyeliner (sometimes)
studded belt, or a sparkly girly belt
converse all stars (hi-top or lo-top) checkered vans, or any other type of vans for that matter.
tons of braceletes, and wristbands

Emo Girl:
chin lengh or longer hair
black or white blonde hair
headbands in hair (usually in a bright color)
jeans
tight band t-shirts or brand name clothes
studded belts, sometimes girly belts
converse all stars (hi-top or low-top) checkered vans or any other type of vans
lip ring or septum piercing or nose ring (sometimes)
necklaces, big beads, chokers, bracelets, and wristbands.

Emo Kids usually dress in the style stated above and they listen to emo or screamo music. Examples of emo and screamo bands are:

Someone that wears prep clothes and has the emotional status of someone whose emo. Sometimes you cant differentiate a prepemo from a regular prep because they arnt very exposed about their emoness. They sometimes will act really very much like a prep. But secretly they feel like dyeing. They are very secretive about their emoness and they really dont want anyone to know about it. It's their dirty dark secret that cant be exposed. So basically you might met tons of people who are prepemo's and you wont know. Unless their not watching themselves and they slip up with an emo comment. But that rarely happens because they're very good at hiding it. This could also include people who arnt exactly prep but they have a happy outer facade but are really depressed as hell inside. It's to bad that prepemo's are mistaken for prep's because they are a lot deeper, and less conceited. And actually have intelligent ideas, concepts, and thoughts, even though when they talk to most people they sound like prep idiots. Basically this is a very confusing and rare genre of people that you are likely not to meet and if you do you will most likely not even realize it!!!

Cutting has been described to me by my therapist as a natural drug in that it released endorphins to the brain immediately following the cutting. However, in the long run, cutting can lead to more severe depression and also can cause permanent physical damage. Cutting sometimes is accompanied by head banging, burning, or other self-destructive behaviors.
Despite some of the close minded definitions, cutting is not done only by emo kids. Although some emo kids do cut, most of the characteristics of cutters are the same as those with eating disorders. Cutters tend to be perfectionists, and often are white, middle class teenage girls, although not all cutters come from this background.
Cutting often is a result of depression, and some view it as a way to release emotional pain when it feels like you would explode otherwise. Although many people think that those with depression have experienced huge tramas in their lives, this is not necessarily the case. Depression is a disease, just like diabetes is a disease. It can strike anyone, regardless of their gender, class, or social status. I personally am attending an ivyleague college next year, was captain of my soccer team in high school, could be considered among the popular kids at my school, and have an extremely loving family. I still have the scars from my cutting, which I stopped doing 2 months ago. Although i was lucky enough to be able to stop, other people such as my older sister, became addicte...

Angry is an emotion that highly contrasts and disagrees with the emotion, happy.

Someone feeling angry will usually have a lack of joy, a lack of judgement, a sense of inbred hate, and overall frustration.

The "image" of someone being angry is usually accompanied by violence, a frown, the furrowing of the eyebrows, and sometimes growling.
