the band logo for avenged sevenfold; Found on the cover of waking the fallen; Very similar to some of overkill's cover art.
I knew it was an avenged sevenfold shirt because it had a picture of the death bat on it.

Originally the mascot for thrash metal band, Overkill, it was later stolen by Avenged Sevenfold. They are pretty much the same logo, a skull with bat wings. Overkill, upon seeing their logo stolen, sent T-shirts to A7X that read "Get your own fuckin' mascot".

Overkill's mascot's name is Chaly, in case anyone was wondering.
A7X fan: Avenged Sevenfold's logo is so cool! The deathbat is so badass! I wonder who came up with it?

Overkill fan: Those jackasses stole it from Overkill, who were around years before Avenged Sevenfold.

A skull with a set of bat wings.
The logo used by the heavy metal band Overkill since 1988's album Under the Influence up til today. The mascot was later stolen by the Avenged Sevenfold band which came many years afterward. It was originally Overkills logo on almost every single album for over 20 years.
The logo on Overkill's album art is a Death Bat

The Deathbat is the image of a skull with bat wings on it. It is widely known as the logo of Avenged Sevenfold (A7x), but it has actually been used as the mascot of the Thrash Metal band Overkill, which has been around since 1980. A7x receives a lot of heat from Overkill fans, being accused of stealing Overkill's logo, and Overkill themselves went as far as releasing T-Shirts displaying Deathbats and text reading, "This one's ours... Get your own fucking logo!"

However, neither band has the right to claim the Deathbat as their own, as images of bat-winged skulls have existed long before both bands have. In fact, the oldest Deathbat currently known in the world is a sculpture of a bat-winged skull over a doorway in the Durham Cathedral, which has been built between c.1093-1133 AD.

Even so, it's really stupid anyway to complain that A7x "stole" Overkill's logo, because the truth is that the logo has nothing to do with how the band sounds, it's just pointless in the end for anyone to fight over who came up with what mascot first. You don't see the New York Giants and the San Francisco Giants fighting with each other over who came up with the mascot first, do you?

Anyway, Avenged Sevenfold and Overkill are both awesome bands, and if you don't like them, just don't listen to them.
Avenged Sevenfold fan: Avenged Sevenfold invented the Deathbat!

Overkill fan: No, they stole it from Overkill!

Me: Both of you are wrong, neither of them invented it! It's been around since c.1133 sculpted over a doorway of the Durham Cathedral, see for yourselves!

Both fans: Oh.

A skull with bat wings. Most notable for being Avenged Sevenfold's mascot. Many Over Kill fans claim the mascot was stolen from their band. The truth is however that it does not belong to one specific person or group. It's like a peace or anarchy symbol-everyone uses it. The death bat has been used on ouiji boards, artwork for other metal bands such as Metallica, even as an enemy in Legend of Zelda games. People who complain about it being stolen obviously is just looking for something to bitch about because their lives are just not complete enough.
Obsessive Over Kill fan: Fuck Avenged Sevenfags!!!!. They stole that death bat from Over Kill. It's rightfully there's!

Normal person: Last time I checked they didn't own the rights to it. I've seen Metallica-yes METALLICA- use it before. What do you say to that now?

Obsessive Over Kill fan: Shut the fuck up!!!! *Leaves*
