Rap is a type of music with a person talking over a beat.

Rap talks about sex, drugs, etc... more often than rock songs, you might be able to name a couple songs that dont but it is generally true. Rap has been stereotyped by the gangster rap that is heard in the mainstream and TV. People defend rap but they fail to notice the possibly worse injustice done to rock (hey, this is like hypocrisy). They think rock is either emo and depression (which I hate) or screaming, satanistic rock (which I hate). Sure these are genres but they are not even close to rock as a whole.

I have nothing against rappers who make their own lyrics, beats, and rythyms (that is art) but (correct me if I'm wrong) not many rappers do that, if any. Therefore it looks stupid to insult rock musicians who write their own songs, sing (not scream very often), and play instruments (with varying degrees of skill).

I choose to listen to rock because I believe it takes more skill, it is a more group effort, and is not quite so immature (I'm not trying to offend anyone here and rock can be immature). Kanye West may have skill and I respect true rappers but he is a white hater and therefore doesnt appeal to me.

I listen to bands such as Muse or Spoon, who are slightly intellectual, play their own instruments (with talent), write their own songs (not depressed or satanic), and sing (not scream).

Depite the somewhat lame title given to this program, its one of the coolest teams u can get onto.
Not all schools offer it... but it IS world wide. And is the only competion i know of that teaches children how to build 3 ft tall building w/ kitchenware and feel confident - when wearing pink bunny tutus with little ballet shoes while skipping about and singing offkey with a geman accent... YES ITS ABOUT CREATIVITY.

Once u r a member of the 7person team,
basically what u do is stay after school a LOT (sometimes everyday until 6 when getting close to regionals):

practice instant challenges (tasks u and ur team members have to complete, usually with a 1-5 min. planning period and 1-5 min performing period. tasks often involve creating commercials, not talking, building structeres out of straws, mailinglabels, toothpicks and what not and the like)

work on ur central challenge (there are 4 u can pick from, all containing building and performing aspects. u and ur team have to solve the challenge w/in an 8 minute skit. there are usually a LOT of requirements. butits fun. plus, costumes and set pieces are made for this.

THEN, u and ur team go to the regional competition and show ur stuff to a panel of judges. And so does every other team in the area. And every1 is uber nice 2 eachother so u don't get points deducted for unsportsmanshipness.
THEN, the 2 winners fore each challenge, grade level go to STATEs.
THEN u rehearse for another month and perform at sta...

its one whole week after midterms where we wear a different themed outfit each day for a whole week. also BIRTHDAYS.
we go all out for birthdays. we decorate lockers with wrapping paper and bows and candy and pictures! I already can tell ur either proud u go here or jealous u dnt. some say sacred heart is the best.... but the only thing they have there are the meanest snobbyest girls u will ever meet. HC is just the best. Every one of us are friend and everyone knows each other. our dances rock and usually the doors close within the first half hr casue we get to crowded! who knew that was possible? we did cuase we rock and the guys know it!
