Contrary to popular belief, not all Catholics are hateful, vile, hypocritical sheep. Just as with any group, there are good and bad Catholics.

Catholicism is generally believed to be the "original" form of Christianity. Saint Peter was the first Pope of the Catholic Church.

On Confession: Through Confession, we believe we are cleansed of our sins. However, we can also confess our sins directly to GOd, not just through a priest.

On Confirmation: In Confirmation, Catholics become full-fledged Members of the Catholic Church. One is usually confirmed in their early teens. It is a Catholic coming-of-age ceremony- sometimes thought of as a Catholic equvalent to a Jewish bar or bat mitzvah. Before Confirmation, one chooses the name of a saint whom they admire and will aspire to be like. When confirmed, that saint's name then is added to your birth name. Confirming is usually done by a bishop or archbishop.

Finally, on who we worship: Catholics, like other Christians, worship God and his Son Jesus, whom we believe died for our salvation. We also worship and pray to the Virgin Mary; She was a totally pure woman, who voluntarily became the mother of God. She was chosen by Him, and is therefore deserving of honor. The same thing goes for saints- they were chosen by God and should be honored in accordance. Catholics do not worship the Pope or priests. We look up to them as leaders, yes, but that is all.

We believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontious Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day He arose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen.

Though widely attacked for many things such as discrimination, the Catholic Church officially does not teach that if your not Catholic or not Christian you are going to Hell no matter what. Though all salvation comes through Jesus Christ and his Church, they do not say that non-Christians can't go to heaven, and call Jews "Brothers in Faith" and "People of the Old Covenant". The actions of a person or more emphasized in Catholicism than in Protestantism, which adheres to faith alone. Also, the Catholic Church takes a critical approach to Biblical studies, and not everything is taken literally. Tradition plays a huge role in the practices of the Church, and not just Scriptures. Tradition can not contradict scriptures. Mary is not worshipped, she is venerated or honored. Adoration i.e. worship is for God alone. The Eucharist is celebrated at every Mass, and Catholics believe in Transubstantiation. This is the belief that the body and blood of Christ are present in the Eucharist. The Catholic Church has apologized to the Jews formally for sins of Catholics against them, and to the Muslims for the crusades.

In actuallity the catholic church stresses the fact that jesus loves us and died for us and the rules are simply for our own good.
