Carbon chauvinism is a relatively new term meant to disparage the assumption that extraterrestrial life will resemble life on Earth. The term was used as early as 1973, when Carl Sagan described it and other human chauvinisms that limit imagination of possible extraterrestrial life. Scientist 1: "All forms of terrestrial life must be carbon-based."

A sub-genre of Freeform and Happy Hardcore music, originating from Finland. Finergy was created in the last couple of years most notably by Alek Szahala, Carbon Based, Re-form, Epilim and Pain on Creation. This style blends elements of Trance such as the uplifting synth apreggios and 4/4 kickdrums with the speed and intensity of hardcore, resulting in a very unique style of music much different to Happy Hardcore. Since it's growing popularity many freeform tracks have been signed to respected hardcore labels such as Electronic and Camel Records. As the UK hardcore culture and it's beliefs of Love, Peace and Unity (PLUR) falls to pieces after the commercialism it recieved from chart remixes on All Around The World records, the people are looking to europe to light the way... A boondoggle involving polluting one geographical location with excessive use of carbon-based fuel while paying to promote clean energy in another geographical location, and claiming one offsets the other, thus yielding neutral pollution. Al Gore rationalizes his profligate use of $30,000/year in electricity and natural gas at his home in Nashville by partially funding clean energy production in other areas, terming this a "carbon footprint offset". It is tantamount to dumping garbage on the streets of Nashville and "offsetting" it by paying for street cleanup in Seattle.
