22. metallica noob
Usually someone that is new to metal that knows of and listens only to the music of Metallica, considering them heaviest, best, fastest music on the planet. They also somehow get the idea that they have dominant musical knowledge of everyone else in the room because of this. Metallica noobs are known to constantly complain about how Metallica sold out with The Black Album. They also use "death metal," "black metal," and "thrash metal" interchangeably (despite their vast differences) when describing bands other than Metallica, then claim that they "don't give a fuck about genres" when they are corrected by real metal fans. Most of these kids probably listen to Slipknot.
Metallica Noob: Metallica is the best metal band ever d00d! Master of Puppets is the greatest album ever! It's so heavy and fast! Dave Mustaine is gay! Rock on!

Me: Metallica's a great band, but thrash is just one type of metal that will eventually start to get old. You should check out some death metal like Cannibal Corpse or Bloodbath. It's not quite fast but a little bit heavier. Or maybe even some 90's black metal like Dissection. And I happen to like Megadeth, bitch.

MN: Shut up, poser. You don't know anything about metal.
23. death metal
one of the many forms of "extreme metal" alongside genres such as black metal and grindcore, death metal is characterised by heavily downtuned and distorted guitar riffs, extremely fast drumming (drum patterns such as blastbeats are often used, and harsh, guttural low pitched vocals, occasionally alongside high pitched screaming.

death metal comes in many sub-genres: brutal, technical, blackened, melodic, deathcore, etc etc, with the most "mainstream sound" coming from more melodic bands such as in flames or arch enemy.

brutal is a genre that is commonly associated with bands such as cannibal corpse, hate eternal and devourment. this is arguably the most heavy form of death metal with heavily downtuned guitaring, frequent blastbeats and extremely harsh guttural vocals. subject matter ranges from rape to necrophilia and everything in between.

technical/progressive death metal is a subgenre most commonly recognised by its extremely technical guitaring, with frequently changing song structures and uncommon time signatures. Examples include Necrophagist, Cryptopsy and to some extent Opeth.

Blackened death metal is a sort of fusion between death metal and some of the more melodic aspects of black metal, aswell as the subject matter such as satanism, the occult and general evil. Some early influences to the subgenre include deicide, immolation aswell as black metal bands such as ma...

24. Death Metal
A form of underground heavy metal that evolved from the '80s Thrash Metal scene, Black Metal, Classical Music, Jazz, and Progressive Rock. Oftentimes considered as "bastardized classical music," Death Metal often uses the technicality and structure of classical music and jazz, and also imitates the sounds of a symphony on highly distorted guitar work. Death Metal vocals are very famous for its intense, gutteral, low pitched, growling vocal style. This is the pinpoint of Death Metal stereotyping, since they are not singing like most popular music nowadays. Because there are an overwhelming amount of notes being played by the guitar, bass, and drums, the vocals cannot be too melodic or rhythmic, so the vocals are used as percussion-like instrument. The drum work in Death Metal is most of the time very fast and technical, combining influence from classical music, jazz, and progressive rock.

Death Metal is also separate into very different sub genres, including Old School Death Metal, Brutal Death Metal, Technical Death Metal, Slam Death Metal, Progressive Death Metal, Melodic Death Metal, Blackened Death Metal, Symphonic Death Metal, Deaththrash, Deathgrind, Crust Death, Death Doom, Funeral Doom, Ambient Death Metal, and many many more.

Death Metal in the mainstream world is often times dismissed, and considered talentless, and a less valid form of music. This is completely false. Death Metal is far more technical than the popular music hitting teenagers nowadays, and ...

25. Nu Metal
A sub genre of metal often criticized for not being "true metal". I could get more into that but I won't because we could spend hours arguing about what bands are true metal and which aren't, but in the end it does not matter that much. The point is, do you like the music? Nu Metal has hip hop influence. Nu Metal bands are usually pretty whiny, image obsessed, and all too happy to sell out. One band that is often mistaken for Nu Metal is System of a Down, despite the fact that the record company admits to putting that label on them because they couldn't figure out what the deuce they were, the members say that hate Nu Metal, and if any one actually listened to them they would realize that they are far off from being even close to Nu Metal, or much of any definable genre, metal snobs go on ahead anyway and hate them because they are insecure about their own musical taste. Real Nu Metal is very generic, unreal, and meant only to sell records. The target audience is angst filled, rich, spoiled teenagers who don't realize just how great their lives are.

26. Metal Head
In simple terms, one who listens to metal music. Often mean if your musical tastes differ from theirs.
Metal Head: Anything that's not metal sucks. May I see what bands you have in you ipod?

Me: Sure.

Metal Head: Wow, all of this sucks. Where's the Cannibal Corpse?

Me: I actually enjoy many styles of music. You don't enjoy any jazz? I am a big fan of Chick Corea.

Metal Head: Chick Corea is gay because he's not metal. He probably couldn't sweep pick or play natural minor or chromatic scales.

Me: Chick Corea plays piano, so he obviously could not sweep pick; in piano terms, it's an arpeggio. Also, He does use minor scales and chromatic runs but not blindly like your favorite artists.

Metal Head: Still not metal.
27. Metal
The best musical genre in the world. People think it's just a bunch of screaming and satanic lyrics, but they fail to see the true meaning behind metal. Not all of it is screaming, there is melodic metal too. And not all of it is Satanic either, there is Pagan, Viking, Folk, Death, Thrash, Glam, even Christian, and many other genres. Not just satanic metal. Also, some bands CALL themselves metal, when in fact they are just wannabe posers.
Metal: Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Cannibal Corpse, Lamb of God, Kataklysm, Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, Amon Amarth, Behemoth, Exodus.

Wannabe poser shit:
Korn, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, and Slipknot.
28. Horrorcore
also known as "wicked shit", "acid rap"; the gimmick of this subgenre or style of hip hop music is about "horror", "satan" or "gore"

Now populated by idiots who think their music is actually "metal" and deny outright their music's hip hop roots. All I can say to these people: be proud of what you are and don't pretend to be what you are not; have you seen metalheads claim that they are also "hip hop" Does not make sense does it?

Popular artists of this style include Necro, an overrated clown who claims to do "death rap" or some other long winded, pretentious label as if motifs/themes about morbid lyrical subjects are a monopoly of death metal or heavy metal bands.

A lot of the lyrics in songs in modern horrorcore make a big deal about the artists being "metalheads" or enjoy "Cannibal Corpse" whereas Metal bands that use gangster/thug imagery in their lyrics do not think of themselves as rappers or praise groups like Bone Thugs in any way

Nobody gives a shit if you're listening to Norwegian black metal or Swedish death metal, the fact of the matter is you are fundamentally using as a whole a musical style that was born from African Americans' take on electronic music and not from Black Sabbath or Kreator so stop pretending to be metal, it's just fucking annoying. Mixing metal and hip hop does not make a unique genre, just uncreative and unimaginative fusion music
