A movement traditionally performed by a gang known as the Crips, to distinguish between fellow Crip members and rival Blood gangmembers, C walking is usually characterized by foot motions known as gliding, the V, heel toe, the shuffle, and variations and combinations of the above. The gang affiliation has almost lost all meaning, as c walking has become almost mainstream in many urban and suburban areas.

C walking is commonly referred to as a dance, but traditionalists and crips will get offended at this common mislabel, and might bust a cap in your ass.

A dance traditionally done and invented by African American Crips. Though there are many different steps and variations to it, everyones C Walk remains unique. The idea of the C Walk is create the illusion you are floating.

The Crip Walk, or C-Walk, is NOT, as many assume, a dance, but rather a walk. Although in many respects it is like a dance, it is to Crips gang members nothing more than a ritual. It originated in the early 1980s in South Central Los Angeles as a symbol for Crips of the area and was a staple of hip hop culture by the late 1990s.

Originally, members of the Crips would use nimble movements of their feet to spell out their names or other pro-Crips words (sometimes spelling out Bloods, the name of their rival gang, and then crossing it out). Many Crip gangs also use a C-Walk ceremony to celebrate the initiation of a new member.
