Bulverism

Coined by C.S. Lewis in his essay, First and Second things.

The act of assuming without discussion that a person is wrong and then distracting his or her attention from this (the only real issue) by builsy explaining why he or she is wrong and how that person became so silly.
"There flashed across my opening mind the great truth that refutation is no necessary part of argument. Assume that your opponent is wrong, and then explain his error, and the world will be at your feet. Attempt to prove that he is wrong or (worse still) try to find out whether he is wrong or right, and the national dynamism of our age will thrust you to the wall." That is how Bulverism became one of the makers of Twentieth Century

boversimplification

An oversimplification of a point, concept, or idea, blatantly ignoring all normal rational reasoning processes and glossing over critical facts and nuances to futilely rebut a salient point with a banal, insipid non-response that not only adds nothing of value to the conversation but actually detracts and obfuscates, making everyone who heard it/read it slightly dumber.

It's reminiscent of talking to a cow, or some other ruminant animal that lacks higher brain functioning. Bovine level intellect + oversimplification = boversimplification.
Joe: "The Yankees may sign Kevin Towers to an advisory position. His experience in the game should be a big plus to the front office. Despite a small budget hamstringing his ability to bring in and keep elite talent, he built several good quality teams in San Diego. Luckily, however, he won't be in an authority position so he won't have final say on anything."

Lanny: "towers sucks. do u remember the the padres ever winning??? this move is dumb"

Joe: "That's classic boversimplification. Sure, Towers doesn't have a perfect track record, but who does? He's still a respected hire who adds way more than he subtracts. How can you be so obtuse?"

Lanny: "..."

Bulverism

There are two fallacies to Bulverism.

Fallacy 1 - Anybody can call an action bulverism, but that does not mean they are calling them a bulverist.
Fallacy 3 - If person A called person B a bulverist, than that means that Person A is a bulverist (and anybody, not just person B, can call person A a bulverist).
Do you partake in bulveristic actions?
Are you a bulverist?
Don't bulverise people!
Hey, thats bulverism!

Bulverism-Sokalism

The unified cognitive bias and meta-bias that combines bulverism and sokalism into a single dismissive framework, particularly used against fields labeled as "postmodernism" or "relativism." Bulverism-Sokalism assumes that an entire field is wrong because it's "postmodern" or "relativist," and that anyone who draws on that field does so because of intellectual corruption rather than genuine insight. The bias allows its holders to dismiss vast areas of scholarship without engagement, to explain away opposing views without addressing them, and to maintain their own worldview as obviously correct while everyone else is simply deluded. Bulverism-Sokalism is the epistemology of the intellectual bubble, where everything outside is fraud and everyone inside is duped.
Example: "He dismissed all criticism as 'postmodern relativism.' When she pointed to specific arguments, he didn't engage—he just labeled them postmodern and moved on. Bulverism-Sokalism had made him immune to challenge: any opposing view was both explained away (you've been corrupted) and dismissed (your field is invalid). He never had to think, only to label."

Bulveristism

A meta-fallacy that elevates Bulverism (the practice of explaining away an argument by attacking its supposed psychological or social motives) into a systematic ideology. Bulveristism doesn't just commit the genetic fallacy occasionally; it makes motive-attribution the primary mode of defense for privileged positions—particularly Western conceptions of truth, rationality, and science. When these are criticized, the Bulverist doesn't engage the critique; they explain it away: "You only say that because of postmodernism," "You're motivated by anti-Western resentment," "You're falling for continental nonsense." The defense uses impossible standards (proof sophism), endless source demands (sourcepost), and truth sophistry to protect Western epistemic privilege from examination. Bulveristism is Debunkism applied to critiques of the West—using the tools of reason to dismiss any challenge to Western reason's authority.
"She critiqued Western epistemology's colonial roots. He didn't address her arguments; he explained why she made them: 'You've been reading too much postmodernism. You're motivated by cultural resentment.' That's Bulveristism: using motive-attribution to avoid engagement, protecting Western truth from criticism by pathologizing the critic. The meta-fallacy is complete: critique of power becomes evidence of bias."

Power Couple

A relationship between two people who are equally as cool as each other. They are as individually awesome and fun to be around as they are when they are together.

Neither one depends on the other for their feelings of self worth- they know in their heart that they are just as valuable to the world as the other. Good looking, optimistic, and sparks a light in the world that people recognize that goes beyond a normal relationship.

In a power couple, if one person is flawed, the other person makes up for their weaknesses in strength. Together they are the epitome of what anyone would desire in a relationship. They encourage goodness in the world and make it a better place by being together.
I'm a fan of those two, they are such a power couple, the epitome of what anyone would want in a relationship.

I am envious of them because they are a power couple.
