While driving, hitting your brakes really hard to scare the crap out of the jerk driving two inches from your rear bumper.

Checking to make sure they have enough time to brake without rear-ending you (pissing them off).
This guy is driving way too close to my rear bumper, time to brake check him.

1. Act of slamming on the brakes in a car to make the person behind you slam on their breaks. (Checked their brakes)

2. Act of slamming on the brakes to make a passenger in your car fly forward.
1. I brake checked the idiot driving behind me.
2. My friend totally brake checked me and I hit the dash board and got knocked out.

When you're sitting next to a class mate who has just insulted you, you promptly wave your arm at extreme force into their chest.
"Why is Gabriel in pain?"
"I just brake checked him."

The idiotic practice of trying to "teach bad drivers a lesson" by quickly pumping your brakes when someone is tailgating you. Can easily lead to a collision
I was driving home from work when some impatient asshole started tailgating me. I brake checked him, which made him rear end me. It's gonna cost a few thousand dollars to get me back bumper repaired.

The ILLEGAL act of intentionally slamming your own brakes in order for another driver tailgating you to rear-end your own car.

Many people do not realize it, but it is the person who slammed on his/her brakes that are at fault, not the tailgater.

If the police finds out about this, the tailgater will most likely be cited for following too close, and fined, but the brake checker will be arrested for reckless driving, and charged with a misdemeanor (or felony if someone gets injured or killed).
Brake checker: This driver behind me is following too close, time to brake check.

Tailgater: Your fault, not mine.

Brake checker: No, it's your fault, because you were following too close.

Tailgater: Let's see what the police says.

Police officer: Tailgater, this is a citation for following too close. Take care of that as soon as possible.

Tailgater: Thank you officer.

Brake checker: I'd better be on my way.

Police officer: No, you're coming with me. You're under arrest for driving recklessly with the intent to cause an accident.

Tailgater: U mad bro?
