The Big Apple

A term only used by tourists and new people moving into NYC that think they are cool when in reality, they are not and try to use the term to show their non-existent coolness. They quickly realize that real New Yorkers don't say this term when one gives them a dirty look and that NYC consists of 5 boroughs and not just Manhattan.
Adriana: You're from NYC??
Sue: Yeah, I'm from the Big Apple! Can't you tell?
Adriana: *Spits in her face* Don't fucking lie to me.

The Big Apple

Name used for New York City (Manhattan) by non-New Yorkers -- anyone that calls NYC "The Big Apple" that lives in New York should be shot multiple times in the face.
Faggot: Yo - are u goin to the big apple on tuesday!!!???
Guy: Dont ever say the big apple again or i will be forced to kill you

the big apple

Nickname for New York City. Originally termed by a newspaper man to describe Broadway, as in the big apple to which everyone aspired. Eventually came to mean the entire New York City.
