One who does not personally believe in a deity or God. Though some do fully deny the possibility of a God, many simply do not believe in one personally, and accept that others do. A group that faces a lot of discrimination, perhaps the most after Jews.

One who denies god(s) or a divine or god belief. One who chooses the path of atheism. A person who is born and whom's mind becomes unaltered through the course of his/her life. One's feedom of belief.

An atheist is simply anyone who rejects the theist claim.

A person who, unlike religious people, don't have imaginary friends (like Jesus).

A person who either:

a. Does not have any theistic beliefs of any nature ("weak" atheism)
b. Actively believes that there is no God, or indeed any matter of supernatural entity ("strong" atheism"

There are two noteworthy things about the concept of atheism:

a. "Atheism", or a- in front of theism, simply means "not theistic". Therefore, the literal definition of the word atheism is what was referred to before as weak atheism. The differentiation between "weak" and strong atheism, however, is now necessary, due to the proliferation in use of labeling strong atheism as simply atheism.
b. "Belief" that there is no God is still the important point here for strong atheism. No reasonable atheist would assert that they KNOW there is no God, just as no reasonable theist would assert that they KNOW there IS a God - there is no proof for either preposition, and thus certainty is impossible either way. However, strong atheism relies on the fact that logically proving something does NOT exist is far harder than proving something does exist (and in fact is generally impossible), and thus tends not to perceive a lack of absolute proof that there is no God as a weakness in their arguments.

Theist: Someone who knows god personally.

Atheist: Someone who can prove that god doesn't exist.

Agnostic: Someone who believes that god in unknown at this time.

An atheist is a person who does not believe in the existence of *ANY* god(s). This term is consistently misused in modern society.

- Refusing to worship God doesn't make one an atheist. If one says things like "well God lets this stuff happen, so I don't believe in him...," it demonstrates that one does believe in God, they just choose not to follow him.

- Many self-proclaimed "atheists" actually hate God. Since it is illogical to hate something you profess does not exist, people who hate God cannot by definition be atheists. If your attitude is "well God lets this happen, so screw Him..." then you're not an atheist.

- People who "don't believe in Jesus" aren't atheists, they're just not Christians. Jews don't believe in Jesus either, that doesn't make them atheists.

- People who say "I'll find out when I get there" aren't atheists, they're agnostics.

- People who join a "National Organization of Atheists" are not atheists; if you don't believe something exists, you don't make a society dedicated to not believing it exists. That's nonsense.
