| 8. | acid house | ||
A hybrid of house music that originated in Detroit. It started to became popular in Europe in 1987-1988. It often used the Roland TB-303 synthesizer and had a 4/4 house beat. Many other styles such as Trance, Hardcore, and Gabber have evolved from Acid House.
It is said that the group Psychic TV first used the term "Acid House." Many ravers don't realize that Trance music is an evolved version of Acid House.

| 9. | acid house party | ||
Term referring to the parties and the gatherings of the late 80's which later evolved into raves. Acid house, a popular genre of house at the time, gave the parties their namesake. The music was much more moody and sinister than the now soft and pleasant music of the club and dying rave scene, and had a much more hard and machine-like edge. Acid house parties themselves took place in cramped buildings or warehouses, with low lighting and a trance-like feel. "acid house parties are over, man" said the young twenty-something. "Raves are now in full swing."

| 10. | Progressive Trance | ||
Trance of the 90's. More of a hit and miss sub-genre of Trance. It is not really "progressive" as it continues to do what the original Acid Trance once did...but then got worse. It also sounds exactly the same as the e-tarded Progressive House. Anyone who loves the music in this genre will think they are an "electronic know-it-all" and have an overinflated ego. | 12. | Psytrance | ||
Psychedelic trance, often referred to as psytrance, is a form of trance music that developed from goa trance in the early 1990s. Trance generally has a fast tempo, in the range 140 to 150 beats per minute (bpm). The emphasis in Psychedelic is placed strongly on purely synthesized timbres in terms of programming and lead melodies. The original Goa trance was often made with popular Modular synthesizers and hardware samplers, but the preference in Psychedelic trance has moved to sample manipulation and storage in VST and AU software sampler applications, for instance Native Instruments Kontakt. The use of analog synthesizers for sound synthesis has given way to digital "virtual analogue" instruments like the Nord Lead, Access Virus, Korg MS-2000, Roland JP-8000 and computer VST and AU plugins like Native Instruments Reaktor. These are usually controlled by host commercial sequencer applications such as Logic and Cubase. Completely software-based algorithms and studios are also increasingly popular in commercial sequencer applications and other self-contained modular applications e.g. Propellerheads Reason and Fruity Loops.

| 13. | Electronic Music | ||
Electronic music is a term for music created using electronic devices. This genre of music is loosely referred to as techno. While this is incorrect, techno IS one of the many genre's of electronic music, also known as EDM, electronic dance music. While some consider electronic music to be nerd music, many would be shocked to learn that their beloved hip-hop is actually electronic music, made with computers, synthesizers, and drum machines. While the basis of techno and hip-hop are the same, EDM is a mindblowing musical masterpiece, can sometime sound like a classical symphony with a hard-hitting bassline. Music made a break-through in the 70's with synthesizers, which started a new movement in music. With these synthesizers and digital machines, the way was paved for electronic music. Electronic music, especially in the late 1990s fractured into many genres, styles and sub-styles, too many to list here. Probably one of the most popular forms of EDM is house music. 'Techno' remixes of your favorite pop song, are usually house music. Styles that are primarily intended for dance such as disco, techno, house, trance, electro, breaks, jungle, drum and bass. Others, such as IDM, glitch and trip-hop, are more experimental and tend to be associated more with listening than dancing. Since around the mid-1980s, electronic dance music has enjoyed popularity in many nightclubs, and, as of 2006, is the predominant type of music played in discothèques as well as the rave ... more...
