If you were to ask an average teenage girl who listens to pop punk WHY she likes certain pop punk bands, the answer you'll most likely get is that she thinks the guys in the band are "hot."
Seriously. When was the last time you heard a girl say she liked Fall Out Boy without also saying that "Pete Wentz is liek omfg SOO HAWT!!1!"? It's the same with bands like Green Day, My Chemical Romance, or any others that are popular right now. If the bands' fans would learn to appreciate them for their musical talent rather than their members' looks, then maybe there wouldn't be so many idiots making the band look like a bunch of terrible no-talent sellouts (or, in fact, actually MAKING them terrible no-talent sellouts). Guy: So I see you like Fall Out Boy. May I ask why?
Pop Punk fangirl: OMFG becuz Pete Wentz is liek SOOOO HAWT!1! Hes in that band and liek hes totally SEXII!1! Guy: ... Ok... and what about their music?? Pop Punk fangirl: Ohh yes!! Patrick Stump's voice is SOOOO WONDERFUL!!! Ahhh.. *swoons* Guy: -_- wait here while I go get a heavy object... |

Hands up, who wants an unbiased, non-judgemental definition? Thought so.
Simple plan is a pop-punk band from Montreal, Canada. People call them posers, poseurs, etc. but there is no such musical genre as 'Poser-rock.' People who listen to Simple Plan are also labeled posers but this again is not true. Person 1: I love Simple Plan.
Person 2: Simple plan are posers lol! Person 1: Go play in traffic. |

| 53. | Good Charlotte | ||
|
Started out as a typical pop-'punk' band, playing songs about girls and "not fitting in". Soon, however, they took a cue from MTV and mainstream society, and became the same as everyone else. You say "Don't bash them for living their dream." I'm not. I'm "bashing" (Or, as I call it, being realistic) them for completely selling out for MTV and mainstream society. Eyeliner. Trendy clothing. Horrible, plastic, processed music.
First, Good Charlotte makes your typical pop-'punk' anthems. Then, a diffrent style of music becomes popular, so they make that type instead. |

A punk girl is like any other punk. She dresses how she wants, has very strong feelings about issues and authority, and is actually usually pretty happy. Punks usually play in some sort of awesome punk rock (or just punk) band. Common punk instruments are guitars and drums. They usually have colors in their hair. Punks like to be creative and try out new things, and they hated it when pop culture took over and it became 'cool' to be punk. Because being punk is being different and not 'blending in to the crowd'. Thanks for reading. Punks are awesome, individual people. Punk rockers rule!!

| 56. | Green Day | ||
|
A pop punk band that started in 1989 with Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Al Sobronte then Tre Cool joined in 1991. Released 1039 hours and Kerplunk on Lookout! Before signing to Reprise in around '93. They were therefore labelled sell outs. They have since released Dookie, Insomniac, Nimrod, Warning, International Superhits!, Shenanagins and American Idiot.

Since they get called for it now I may as well talk about American Idiot. Whether or not you like American Idiot please dont try to force your opinion on to others. In MY OPINION American Idiot is a good album. They did not sell out whilst making this album, they still had complete control over what they released and St Jimmy, Letterbomb and Homecoming are great songs. Green Day may not be 1970 punk but they do have punk roots. If you disagree then fair enough, dont listen to them but dont try to bully others into thinking what you think. Green Day are the ones who got me into The Clash, Sex Pistols, The Ramones, Dead Kennedys, Bad Brains, Operation Ivy among others. I feel that they are a good intro to the world of punk. Anyway like I keep saying if you like them great, also try the old punk bands. If you dont, fine, just dont try to bully others into thinking what you think. |
