A moniker for the recently renamed Willis Tower in Chicago, formerly known as Sears Tower from 1973-2009. Used by Chicagoans to avoid using the name Willis Tower. Similar in structure to The Artist Formerly Known as Prince, which the music artist Prince crafted for legal reason to produce music outside the control of his corporate music label, until such time as he could regain his rightful name. Passenger: Could you please take me to Willis Tower?

1: Acronym for "The Artist Formerly Known As Prince." When, for contract reasons, Prince stopped calling himself Prince and went under his sign people still had to call him something. "The Artist" emerged from "The Artist Formerly..." as the normal thing to say but TAFKAP got around as a mocking runnerup.

Changed his name to an unpronounceable symbol for a short time to work around contract restraints with Warner Brothers. "Prince's new album 3121 set another record for him this past year by debuting at #1 on the Billboard charts."

A record company usually uses this word to describe the ownership of the artist. Prince was a label of Warner Bros. He then changed his persona to "the artist formerly known as Prince" which was actually a visual picture of his name. He patched up with Warner and is now known again as Prince.
