An awesome punk/rock band. Sum 41 is very talented and when performing live, they sound almost the exact same as they are on the album. (A lot of times, even better.). Deryck Whibley can write extremely powerful lyrics and his talent really shines in Screaming Bloody Murder, the 5th studio album that they released. Their fans are called "skumf*ks" and only the best fans can call themselves that. The band is currently made up of 4 members:

Deryck Whibley- lead singer, lead guitarist (Bizzy D)
Steve Jocz- drummer, vocals (Stevo 32)
Jason McCaslin- bassist, vocals (Cone)
Tom Thacker- guitarist, vocals (BrownTom)

*Tom Thacker replaced Dave Baksh- the original member of the band before his departure in 2006 to focus on his band Brown Brigade.

The band started out as a NOFX cover band called Kaspir with just Steve and Deryck. After that, they changed the name to Sum 41. Sum 41 was formed in 1996, 41 days into summer. (Hence the name.)

Before Dave left the band, Sum 41 had an alter ego band- Pain for Pleasure. They would dress like a 1980's heavy metal hair band by wearing leather jackets and crazy wigs. Stevo is the lead singer while Deryck plays the drums.

Sum 41 has released 5 studio albums so far.
Guy 1: Hey, did you see the Sum 41 concert last night?
Guy 2: Yeah, it was fucking awesome!

They're a pop rock band, influenced by punk, metal and rap.
They never claimed to be 'punk' so all you petty losers can stop your bitching.
Just because a band has an army of teeny fans doesn't detract from the fact that their music is actually...pretty damn good.
sum 41 are GREAT!

During an MTV interview, they actually described themselves as "well, we're sorta like playskool's 'My-First-Punk-Band'"
also quoted:
"our music is like (pretends to beat box) with a twist of lemon"

SUM 41 is a commercially driven modern rock band created by someone or a group of people who choose to use bright colors and flashy lights in videos and on people as a vehicle for their advertising. Ideal MTV band.
Oh my god I feel a lot better now that I've loaded every single SUM 41 .mp3 onto my yellow iPod that perfectly matches my LIVE STRONG bracelet and my yellow "brimmed-beanie".

A Canadian pop-punk/mall punk band that was made popular by middle schoolers and high school freshmen. Oh wait, they're trying to be emo now, right?
I saw Sum 41 live once and they were God awful in that they didn't sound anything like they do on their albums.

A shit, suck-ass poser band that, even if they weren't such jackass posers, suck ass. Their instrumentals are shitty or, at best, generic, and they're lyrics are stupid as hell, for example, "Strolling through the party like my name was El Nino/Well, I'm hanging out drinking in the back of an El Camino" or "Tell me now, what have we done?/We don't know." They haven't gotten any better on any of their later albums, and in their last one they even ripped off GOOD bands such as (old school) Metallica and even Oasis. Apparently copyrights don't apply to Sum 41.

Lots of futily rebellious kids who watch lots of MTV and like to think they're a badass punks by listening to this so-called "punk" music, and whose only defense against those who say how shitty their precious band really is is, "Fuck you, haters! They never said they were punk!" Contrary to what a lot of posters have said, the singer HAS been quoted as referring to their music as "punk".

Also, the band members all have LAME-ASS nicknames such as Stevo 32 and Brown Sound, and are in real life major assholes (I've read on some of the shit they've said and done).
I have heard Sum 41 and have even seen them play on TV and they suck shit.

Sum 41 sounds different when they play (even more shitty than they already are).

MTV teenybopper: Wow, look at me! I just bought the new Sum 41 CD along with a new studded wrist band and eye-liner! I'm so punk!
