They are the emo version of a hipster. Only major difference from straight up hipster is the males wear makeup and they have infiltrated the genre of metal. Scene "metal" bands usually only play drop D tuned guitars because they need to hide their lack of playing ability. The lyric content is emo-ish despite the scene kids' denial. Songs are almost exclusively about girls they'll never get or had or the girl broke up with them because they are in fact loser scene kids. They strive for attention which is why the guys dress like girls and the girls have several layers of what appears to be makeup they bought at Party City. Whereas hipsters try to dress down and look minimalist, scene kids take pride in the fact it took them forever to do their hair and makeup. Other than the level of makeup, scene males and scene females dress the exact same, maybe a scene chick will rock a skirt on occasion but that is it. The music they listen to is heavier than hipsters but equally as lame as to that which hipsters listen to. They talk and brag on how non-conformist they are (like hipsters) yet they (also like hipsters) are a walking contradiction because there are droves of them looking the same. Nothing is very original and their personalities tend to suck which is why they have to look like a freak in order for people to notice them. Unlike hipsters, cutting of the wrists is very common among scene kids, again to get as much attention as possible.
Sir 1: Why is that guy wearing girl pants and a deep v t-shirt down to where his chest is supposed to be?
Sir 2: Ah, that would be a scene kid good sir. He's trying desperately to be "different" but instead just looks like an idiot.
Sir 1: Oh, I get it. kind of like a hipster
Sir 2: Exactly.

Typical Scene Chick:

-Bandana in hair.
-Bows are popular
-Heavy make up, usually around the eyes, sparkles are quite common.
-Fake moles have been spotted.
-Tries to pull of Vintage look
-Usually really hot. But, we haven't seen them with out make up so this is questionable.

Typical Scene Boy:
-Long bangs usually covering eyes.
-Usually, black or different colors such as orange, red, blue, purple ect.
-Make up, usually centered around the eyes. Eye shadow, black usually pink or purple.
-Tight pants, extremely tight band shirt. Sometimes a too tight jacket.

Scene kids usually go to local shows have extremly tight groups. They may be there for the music but usually they are there for the social time. Scene kids are usually very picky about who they talk to and associate with. If they deem you cool they may go up to you and talk to you and act as if ...
Your typical scene kid, guy or girl, will either have black hair, or some insane color, or just crazy streaks, with a shock of bangs covering up one eye or both. Hair MUST be dead straight. Sometimes it's poofy-spiked in the back, whatever u call it. Pretty much just the white kids follow the hair trend. Or girls of other ethnicities. I do NOT recommend this part to black guys. Ever seen one with long hair and a poof in the bag? WITH a shock of bangs and crazy hair color? Not the best visual I assume.
Guys will typically have on extremely tight skinny jeans, sometimes girls jeans, with a really tight fitting band t-shirt and bracelets. The jeans usually aren't flares or bootcuts, but straight-leg pencil jeans.
Girls will normally have on the same thing or funky outfits that won't match but will go together. Typical outfit will consist of a polka-dot or striped shirt with a band hoody and they will have on sometimes skirts with crazy leggings. Lots of leggings. They will wear little kid barrettes and bows, bright eyeshadow, the hugest sunglasses in the world, and strands of pearls/beads. Oh and handbands are a MUST.
A lot of scene chicks will wear no namebrand clothing and then have a really expensive designer bag.
Definately a cool belt, sometimes the buckle worn on the side, like on the hip.
Straight-Edge(no smoking, no drinking) & being Christian & being a vegetarian is really popular. I never knock straight-edge. Even though it's become a trendy thing, at...
for the love of God, come on.
i mean, everyone makes fun of 'scene' kids or 'emo' kids for comforming to something that is supposed to be a symbol of non-comformity. You are all contradicting yourselves. Your saying that you want to hurt/kill/piss on?!? someone for the way they look? Has the human race honestly regressed that far back? take a look at movies like - mississippi burning, the pianist or to kill a mockingbird. Your acting the same way as the people in the movies. Your critisiing someone for their beliefs. I do not identify as 'emo' 'indie' or 'scene' but i do own vans slip ons, i do wear tight jeans, and i do listen to bands that the majourity of my classmates have not heard of. But just because my jeans are tighter than yours does not make me a lesser human being, or a 'fag' as you so delictaly put it. someone listens to obscure bands? Why the fuck do you care? get a FUCKING hobby. please. people who listen to unpopular music do so, for the most part, because music is a huge part of life for them, and seeing it slowly stripped down and sold for ratings waters down the concepts that the music originaly held. That is why they prefer to listen to bands that you dont know about, so that they DONT become like my chemicle romance, fall out boy, ect. If you still thnk that they are conforming, than think of this. People who go to AE or AF ae spending ALOT of money on the clothes they buy. Kids who go to vintage stores are buying cheap and for the most part really n...
scene kids? kids who know the music scene, sure they dress alike, but who doesnt these days? most chavs wear sports clothing, most goths wear black, but whos to say that wearing skinny-jeans and eyeliner is a bad thing?
everybody's different, different people belong to different cliques, different cliques follow different fashions...whats so wrong about that?
people have different ways of doing things, why cant that just be accepted?

Scene Kids are the new wave hardcore kids. Often mistaken for emo because of people's ignorance. They are actually a happy new trend. They are the other half of the hardore civil war (meatheads vs scene kids) they also listen to screamo, techno, punk rock, indie rock and hip hop. All scene kids style and straighten their hair. Most wear eyeliner (not to be confused with emo eyepaint), girl pants and tight band/splash paint style shirts. It is rare to see a scene kid without converse shoes but, vans or retro shoes are also in their list of clothing accessories. THEY DO NOT CUT THEIR WRISTS... like I said before they are not emo and tend to dislike EMOtionaly unhappy people. In more urban areas scene kids carry hand guns and are more gang like. Most scene kids go to shows regularly and are seen in pits hardcore dancing.
From First to Last is a band scene kids might listen to while Dashboard Confessional is a band emo kids listen to.
