UNBIASED definition of republican

The Republican Party is one of the two major contemporary political parties in the United States, along with the Democratic Party. It is often referred to as the Grand Old Party or the GOP. Founded in 1854 by anti-slavery expansion activists and modernizers, the Republican Party quickly surpassed the Whig Party as the principal opposition to the Democratic Party. In 1860, it came to power with the election of Abraham Lincoln to the presidency. The party presided over the American Civil War and Reconstruction and was harried by internal factions and scandals toward the end of the 19th century. Today, the party supports a conservative platform (from an American political perspective), with further foundations in supply-side fiscal policies, and social conservatism.

The Republican Party is currently the second largest party with 55 million registered members, encompassing roughly one-third of the electorate.1 The current U.S. President, George W. Bush, is the 19th Republican to hold that office. Republicans currently fill a minority of seats in both the United States Senate and the House of Representatives, hold a minority of state governorships, and control a minority of state legislatures.

"Damn them Liberals! First they let the women vote, then they let the blacks vote, then they let the black women vote, and now they want us to make peace with a country that did absolutely nothin to us."

A member of one of the two major political parties in the United States. The symbol of the party is an elephant, and it's symbolic color on the electoral map is red. Despite the party's color being red, they tend to be the more right-wing, as they usually tend to be more Conservative and/or Libertarian.

If you are a Republican, you probably:
- support a capitalist and/or free-market economy in which people are able to keep what they earn
- want lower income taxes
- want more power to states and local government
- want a smaller federal government
- believe that the nation should be how the American Founding Fathers wanted it to be
- believe that money would go better towards employing people than giving them welfare
- believe that the Constitution should be followed more strictly
- believe that free speech should be protected no matter who is offended
- believe that homosexual couples should not be given marriage benefits paid for by tax payers (does not necessarily mean banning homosexuality or gay marriage entirely)
- believes that birth control should not be free
- believes that abortion should not be aloud (often with exception for rape and/or risk of the mother's life)
- believe execution is okay for serious offenses
- believe people should be aloud to bear arms
- believe that minorities are just like any other people and laws should apply to people of different racial groups equally

Some one who believes in working hard for their money and thinks that other people should too. Someone who also thinks that hand outs should only occur when there are truly deserved and not just because people don't feel like working or doing anything. Someone who also believes that we should strive to be a debt free country and stop borrowing money from other countries who could potentially own us. We pay back who we borrow from and work hard to never owe anyone.
It is our republican duty to pay off the national debt and become a self sufficient country once again.

Republican: One who is of the Grand Old Party (GOP) of the United States. They believe in the republican system of government. One who is for upholding the constitution unlike Democrats who want to destroy it. A republican believes in less government control and oversight in our daily lives. The Republican party believes in free market capitalism, the opposite of what the Democrats believe. They would like America to become a socialist police state where welfare, out of control spending, and complete government control flourish. Republicans want to simplify the tax code so everyone pays the same flat rate. For the logically impaired, paying the same proportion of your income is your "fair share."
Wow that guy's idea's for the nation actually make logical sense, he must be a republican.
