Top definition
A group of religious extremists that are responsible for much of the misery present in the world today. A bunch of goddamned two face hypocrites who do not practice what they preach. A bunch of racist, homophobic pigs who cannot stand ideas like democracy, seperation of church and state, and people who think and believe differntly than they do.
The Religious Right embody so much of how Jesus Christ described the pharisees of old in Matthew 23.

An American Christian fundamentalist movement that rose in the late 70s/80s; individuals of this group are superlatively hypocritical in their two-faced morality that the expouse.
Religious Right leaders claim to stand for traditional morality, yet the places where they have a strong power base tend to be filled with titty bars.
They claim to represent family values, yet divorce rates among members of typical fundamentalist churches are among the highest in the country.
They cite Bible verses in Leviticus in order to condemn homosexuality, yet they ignore the fact that the same book of Leviticus also says shellfish are an abomination as well as homosexuality.
They are always pro-life, yet they approve of pre-emptive war in Iraq.
They continuously marginalize and belittle those of minority faiths and atheists, yet the shout persecution whenever people show understandable hostility towards them, or when the government, in accordance with separation of church and state doesn't give them state sanction, i.e., the Ten Commandments on government property.
They go on and on about how gays demand special rights, but they demand special status for themselves for being Protestant evangelical Christians.
It's important to realize that the Religious Right is in no way representative of Christianity as a whole. Former president Jimmy Carter, a devout evangelical himself, has denounced the politics of the Religious Right.
Pat Robertson and Ralph Reed use manipulative and secretive means to get Religious Right-wingers, such as Tom Delay, Bill Frist, and Rick Santorum, into the Senate and the House.

A movement that is neither. A 1980’s to 1990’s effort by Christian fundamentalist extremists to preempt government by undermining the basic separations of church and state. A group of like minded individuals – see Southern Baptists – who somehow became fixated with an extreme fundamentalist view of Christianity and are dead set on ramming it down the throats of everyone else.
The state of Virginia is a hot bed of the religious right, having the embarrassment of both Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson.

A political movement of individuals espousing that their manifest destiny is to inculcate the US with their beliefs, both temporal and spiritual, for the good of mankind. (Naturally, the power of the country, once obtained, will come in handy for forcing this belief structure down the throats of all world people. Who can argue with 20 megatons of "convincer".) Their approach directly contradicts the Constitution and the Founders intentions, but, hey, those guys weren't evangelical fundamentalist so fuck 'em.
I exemplify by contradiction: the religious right have shown the rage to perpetrate the murder of individiduals to foster their causes (killing of abortion clinic doctors, or the "accpetable losses" of innocents in pre-emptive military actions.) This violates commandments, but they are both "right" and "religious". Same case they make against fundamentalist Islamists, isn't it.
