Otherkin are a magical race of people that are usually combinations of two very separate creatures. For example, an otherkin will often be part morbidly obese and part attention whore.

Otherkin are often misunderstood...because it's hard to understand someone when they've got their mouth full of one of those sculpted dragon-penis shaped dildos.

It's not unheard of for a teenager with gawky looks and low self-esteem to stumble across an enclave/nest/website/asylum full of these people and, after being greedily accepted by them, suddenly remember that he was (in a previous life) part basilisk, part Merlin. He/she will maintain this belief until he/she gets laid. NOTE: If he/she gets laid by a fellow otherkin, all bets are off for the return of sanity. He/she will probably die at the age of 59 with a smile on his/her face, knowing that in the next life he/she will be a wyvern claiming to be Normalkin that was once human who the other wyverns will make fun of and push into the mud.

In a perfect world, we'd be allowed to send them to camps where guys in knight armor would spend the day walking around and smacking them gently on the head with blunt swords until they smarten up, but this is not a perfect world. The best we norms can hope for is to catch one unawares, steal their prosthetic unicorn horn, and run away giggling while they stand there wetting their pants in impotent fury and screaming "Brinnnnng baaaaack myyyyy horrrrrrn!"

Otherkin are prone to outbursts of nonsensical gibberish. "We come from all walks of life!" is a popular one. This is, of course, completely insane as no normal person could ever imagine (for example) Donald Trump, Jennifer Aniston, or Yul Brenner coming out of the magical closet to reporters. You need to have hit rock bottom to slide down that slippery slope. Yes, that was a mixed metaphor, but if they can be half gryphons, half Santa's elves, then I can mix my metaphors. Suck it, dragon-boy.

In conclusion, all otherkin should be sterilized to keep them from breeding. Thank you.
Man 1: "Did you hear about Bob's son?"
Man 2: "Yeah. It's a shame. What the fuck IS an otherkin, anyway?"
Man 1: "I think it's the new word for bestiality. Bob was in tears when I talked to him. Don't they teach ANY social skills in high school anymore?"
Man 2: "It's his mother I feel bad for. Bob told me she caught him in the bathroom making paper maché dragon wings."
Man 1: "Man. Maybe they could get him a hooker or something."

Fat Middle-Aged Woman: "In the 3rd year of the reign of King Arthur, I was a dragon-turtle named 'Stellestra!'"
Mundane Human with a Life: "You don't say."
Fat Middle-Aged Woman: "Doth you not believeth me, mortal?"
Mundane Human with a Life: "Your hymen is still intact, isn't it? No, don't answer, I can smell it from here."

A bunch of degenerate role-players that appeared during the advent of the internet and role playing games. Evidence points towards them as being escapists (i.e., a person who tries to escape the pressures of their life through non-orthodox methods), though they fervently deny this. They bitch about the human race and their "wrong" ways. Also they are depressed over the fact that they are not whatever the hell they like to role-play. This also shows more evidence of escapism. Otherkin are also a bunch of hypocrites because if you do not believe the bullshit that they tell people you are a "mundane close minded human."

One annoying thing about otherkin is that they are tree huggers and that they are concerned about nature. That means that they are hippies which explains a lot of things since hippies are retarded pot smokers like otherkin (although the pot smoking part is questionable, the retardedness is a self evident truth). The reason why they believe that they are otherkin because ever since they started bullshiting the idea that they are otherkin, it has manifested itself within their three brain cells to a degree where they have become too full of shit to realize they are full of shit.

Recently a group called otakukin has popped up. Otherkin seemed to have accepted them as one of there retarded own. Probably because they have little support for the shitty otherkin community and they need reinforcements real bad. Or because they are so stupid as to believe that they are a reincarnate of anime characters even if the anime was made after they where born.

The internet has seen a major increase in lunatics and is a very scary place for our children. I can see why insane asylums where so full back then. Not because of wrongly convicted people but to keep these idiots off the street.
Joe: Hey Bill that guy is an otherkin. He threatened to use magic on me if I broke his resonance.

Bill: What did you do Joe?

Joe: I performed some magic on his ass with my foot.

Otherkin is a word for people who beleive, in one or many given ways, that they are something other then human. Mostly, this is in a spiritual sense. An otherkin individual may beleive that their spirit is anything fron ET's, Faeries, Angels, Animals, Dragons, Unicorns, ect.
I see many of the definitions listed here and feel alot of the predgidous is woefully misplaced. I am not an overweight web desighner at all, nor do I sit in my house or office and roleplay being " something else". I am a CEO of a very significant and large healthcare company, I have a large family and plenty of friends, and get out quite often, thank you. Kin come from many walks of life and may look like/resemble any 'Normal' person. Kin tend to be suspicious and even cold to 'normal' people for exactly the type of reactions outlined here. The unneccesary, immature, hateful comments by people who would rather not even stop to consider that the things they say may hurt other people. We have just as much right to beleive what we want to beleive as you do.
Before you go pointing fingers and critisizing how other people live their lives, turn that 'high powered' perception back on yourself. Maybe you'll see how much of an ass your being.
For those scattered few who wrote decent definitions in here, shame on you for not speaking up about this kind of immature definition. You are *not* helping anyone.

Otherkin is a group of people who believe that in some way, they are not completely human. Some think they are a reincarnation of mythological beings, aliens, animals native to this planet, etc. Others think they've descended from ancient elvish or fae bloodlines and what have you. Probably most rarely, even some believe that they are existing on this plane in their "trueform" but under a "seeming," which from what I know is some sort of magical disguise.
While a vast majority of 'kin are most likely vying for attention and many may indeed be delusional, there are those who lead quite normal lives and are quite happy with the way things are.
"I never would have guessed, but my friend is an otherkin. She seemed so normal, too."
"The otherkin just wanted a place to relax, but it seemed that even on their own turf the flamers would not give them peace."

When a mentally unstable person has not been properly hospitalized and given medication, and has come to believe they are not human, superior to others, or somehow linked to an animal/fictional being spiritually. Like most batshit crasy individuals, their shit filled minds are impossible to flush clean and will deny any aspects of being human.

If encountered in real life, quickly call the proper institution in your area, and the men in white coats will gladly give them the desperate shock treatment they need.
Otherkin: IM A DRAGON!
Rational person: No, you're human...
Otherkin: STFU hyooman, before I burn you with my fiery breath!
Rational person: Idiot.. walks away

A person who has inherited the traits of something of another being. This can be any of the few mentioned, as well as others. These traits are usually recognized during times of great upheaval in the individual's life, known as an Awakening.

Recently, due to the popularity and drive for belonging, many new 'kin' have arisen. Because of the popularity of the idea, and because of the increase in roleplaying, many of these new kin are false, and merely imitating it in order to find acceptance in a group. In other words, they are chasing a trend to feel part of something. These imitators are usually the members of the otherkin community that tend to give true otherkin the bad reputation many of the members on this website have given them. Also, those that become overly defensive and hostile contribute to this, and do not benefit any members of the community by making subtle threats.

Most otherkin live totally normal lives, with jobs, families and anything else a normal person enjoys. They simply live with the knowledge of being something more than just a regular being, and that leads them to discover what it is about them that is so different. The otherkin that gain bad reputations are not the norm, and others of the kin community should not be judged by the actions of those that gain notice.
1.) The kid on the forum claimed to be Posiden, as an otherkin. Both kin and non-kin alike knew he was an idiot.

2.) James always felt a desire in his heart for things beyond what he felt was real and normal, and discovered his otherkin traits through a difficult Awakening.

3.) People that mock otherkin are only insulting those who can't rise above petty insults, who are usually the least sincere about their experiences.

Coming up with a consistent definition for Otherkin is near impossible, even when collaborating with only Otherkin. I recently had an argument in the Otherkin Wikipedia article (a mature one), as they want to merge it with Therianthropy. Therianthropy is the belief that they are, specifically, in one way or another, animals (correct me if I'm wrong, Therans). Not all Otherkin believe so. For example, I have, for all but a select few of my lives, been pretty much everything but any animal-related 'kin. Therefore, I found the definition unjustified. Many will agree. I brought this up because a number of Otherkin supported that merging. Of course, those Otherkin were Dragons, wolves, and the like. Truth be told, Otherkin can be just as ignorant as humans. It's not fair to single out humans, which would be just as those Otherkin who choose to do so (not pointing anyone out - simply making the point for those who read this).
From a scientific standpoint, however, Otherkin are met with more problems than any religious group on the planet. A quote from the Wikipedia article:
Otherkin Wikipedia Article wrote:
According to diagnosis criteria put forth by mental health professionals, the belief that one is an animal or can be turned into an animal is termed clinical lycanthropy5, a delusion of varying severity and significance.
This is, of course, because those "mental health professionals" take part in their religions, so their diagnostic of themselves would be severely bias.
So it'll be quite a while before everyone can agree on what Otherkin really is, an whether or not they truly exist. One of my goals is to find some way to change that - but looking at how things are going, that will not be any time soon.
By the way, the most commonly used definition of otherkin: Otherkin are races of beings that do not have a native origin on earth. They are often discussed in myths and legends, and are not regarded to be real by the modern scientific and historic community. These include the popular types of kin (slang for Otherkin), such as Dragons, Vampires, Elves, Fairies, etc.
Anne realised she was otherkin because she had painful memories of her family being killed in another life, as another being not on Earth.

Crazy people on the internet who desperately try to make themselves seem cool by claiming to be a reincarnated version of some kind of popular, charismatic animal or a monster they heard about in a roleplaying game. Usually they justify this by insisting their daydreams have some kind of bearing on the real world. It generally does not work, except with fellow otherkin and of course furries.

Lately the otherkin have branched off into even more mind-bogglingly insane territory with the otakukin movement.
I don't care how big the wingspan of your fifty-foot-tall-humanoid-dragon-soul is, Mr. Otherkin. I still don't like you.
